Christian Bale has scored quite a few remarkably successful projects as one of the best actors in the industry, and he hasn’t hesitated to perform immaculately in pretty much every single one of them either. But while all of them are commendable, perhaps none comes as close to perfection as The Dark Knight, helmed by the mastermind Christopher Nolan.

Besides quite literally being regarded as one of the best Batman movies created to date, the second titular movie in this film series also even holds a major record that would be hard to replicate for any other movie. The masterpiece stars such legendary actors with such impeccable acting chops that pretty much the entire main cast has been acknowledged by the Academy at least once.

Christian Bale’s The Dark Knight Has a Rare Record

While the movie in itself is one of the best pieces of comic fiction mixed with action and crime ever created, its awesomeness doesn’t merely stop there. This is because, besides the whopping six Oscar nominations and two wins the movie received, The Dark Knight also owns an incredibly star-studded cast, vastly acknowledged by the Academy.

Starting off with the film’s protagonist and Bruce Wayne portrayer, Christian Bale has received a stunning four Oscar nominations throughout his three-and-a-half-decade-old career (an already impressive record), which includes one win for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his tremendous performance in The Fighter in 2010.

Next is Gary Oldman, who played James Gordon in the iconic trilogy and has three Academy Award nods to his name, including one win for Best Actor for Darkest Hour. Then there’s Cillian Murphy, the Scarecrow portrayer in the 2008 movie, who recently won the Best Actor Academy Award for his outstanding performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer.

Besides them is Morgan Freeman as well, i.e. the legendary Hollywood veteran actor who embodied the iconic Lucius Fox in the trilogy. Besides the four leading nominations he scored over the course of a little over two decades, he also won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 2004’s Million Dollar Baby.

Adding to them all is, of course, Hollywood’s very own beloved Heath Ledger, who was honored after his tragic death in 2008 due to an accidental drug overdose. As fans already know, besides his one other nod for Best Actor, Ledger also scored a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his remarkable performance as Joker in The Dark Knight.

Last and anything, but the least on this list is Michael Caine, the master veteran performer who played the fan-favorite butler Alfred Pennyworth in the 2008 masterpiece. Not only has he scored a whopping six Oscar nominations, but he also managed to bring two of those accolades home out of all of those nominations.

Summing it all up, you get 6 of the lead actors in the second Batman movie helmed by the genius Christopher Nolan, all of whom have now won at least one Academy Award to set a record as rare as massive paychecks for female actresses in Hollywood. That said, it is indeed an undeniable fact that Nolan assembled a bunch of legends for his masterpiece!
