Kevin Hart has mostly played comic roles providing laughs in a film through his actions and dialogues. While audiences continue to support him, some have found him to be typecast as a funny person and have complained about the lack of diversity in his works. In recent years, Hart has started to do relatively grounded performances in 2021’s Fatherhood and 2024’s Lift.

Hart talked to Collider about how his character in Lift drew him to the project as it was not his usual funny-guy role. Unlike most of his other characters, Cyrus is grounded and has a certain level of cadence, which he finds refreshing. Hart said,

“It’s the main reason why I wanted to play the role. I just think that I’m at a point in my career where it’s a lot of years and a lot of IP under my belt, and I just wanna start to explore and just have some fun of change. I think Cyrus is the mastermind of it all, but there’s a nice charming cadence that he has in how he talks and deals with people that I thought was real grounded and nice.”

Hart is continuing to pursue more dramatic roles with his next project Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, based on the 2020 iHeart podcast of the same name. His next film project will be the upcoming Borderlands film where he will play Roland.

Fans can watch Hart’s Fatherhood and Lift on Netflix.
