The latest episode unleashes more of these shocking feats by featuring Matt Smith‘s Daemon Targaryen arriving at the castle of Harrenhal and being plagued by visions. Stepping into the rain-drenched grounds, one particular vision shows Targaryen being visited by Rhaenyra, his wife.

Tending to the dead Jaehaerys Targaryen, Rhaenyra is seen sewing the severed head back. As astonishing as the vision is, even more astonishing is that the version of Rhaenyra featured in the vision is not the one portrayed by Emma D’Arcy but by Milly Alcock.

A shocking cameo, even Ryan Condal believes keeping it a secret has been one of their most remarkable achievements.

Milly Alcock was the one who initially portrayed Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of House of the Dragon. However, she was soon replaced by Emma D’Arcy. With such a jump in the storyline, it has been shocking to see Alcock back as Rhaenyra in the latest episode of the fantasy drama, yet it has been a pleasant affair.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the co-creator Ryan Condal revealed how the cameo came to happen.

It was very easy in terms of will. We were excited about the prospect. Milly was eager to come back and everybody was excited to have her back.

Condal then stated how bringing Alcock back was tough since the actress has since transitioned to the DC universe, currently starring as Supergirl in the upcoming Superman. Luckily, the production managed to get her right at the start of their season 2 schedule, which is also shocking since her astonishing cameo had managed to remain a secret for so long, leading Condal to remark,

I think one of our greatest feats was keeping that a secret all the way through, given the fact that it happened right at the beginning.

Previously not in the plan to have any cameo whatsoever, the need to tell the story of Daemon coming to terms with his past is what eventually convinced the production to get Milly Alcock back in the ‘vision sequence’.

With 5 more episodes of season 2 of House of the Dragon left to premiere, it is for certain that fans are in for some unexpected surprises and shocking plotlines.

House of the Dragon can be streamed on Max.
