Jujutsu Kaisen’s animation studio, MAPPA, came under a lot of fire during the anime’s second season because of the horrible work conditions that were being set for the animators. The situation was so bad that episodes were being completed only moments prior to them being aired. People were ready to boycott the studios and animators were quitting left and right.

Things were looking far from good for the studios responsible for bringing some of the best animes to life. There is no doubt that MAPPA is a genius at what they do. Each and every anime coming out from their production is a cinematic masterpiece worth fawning over. However, the cost isn’t worth it. That much was made clear with the many people willing to come forward. One such person was Vincent Chansard.
MAPPA’s Big Loss
When the controversy regarding MAPPA began surfacing, fans weren’t the only ones who started speaking up. Animators, voice actors, directors, and everyone was showing their support for those who were treated unjustly. Out of the many was Vincent Chansard, the renowned animator who was responsible for animating Sukuna vs Mahoraga’s fight sequence.

I simply don’t want to show my support as a worker to a society who, ideologically, simply doesn’t care about the work conditions. I don’t want to support them, that’s all.
During a Twitch stream with KonohaTV (via CBR), the animator talked about how he had left MAPPA long ago because of their horrid work conditions but they convinced him to come back for one scene, Mahoraga vs Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
He admitted that the work conditions treated animators unfairly and he would not condone such treatment. The last chance he gave them was also gone in vain after he decided never to work with MAPPA again despite being one of the best animators they had.
From Jujutsu Kaisen to One Piece
Vincent Chansard has previously worked on One Piece as well. Compared to his time with MAPPA, his time with the series had been so good that he decided to give a year dedicated to only Eiichiro Oda’s anime (via Instagram).

Zoro vs King, one of the most thrilling fights in One Piece has Chansard’s hand behind it. Seeing how the animation studio lost such a gem, one man’s loss is another man’s profit. Toei and the series gained a talented and skilled animator while MAPPA lost one.
If things continue to worsen for MAPPA, the studio might soon be writing its own ruin, dropping from the pedestal it created with care.
Jujutsu Kaisen is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
