Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood mogul who has been convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison for s*xual assault and r*pe, has been actively seeking to reverse his conviction. His attorney, Arthur Aidala, filed an appeal earlier this year with New York’s highest court to overturn his conviction.
And the legal landscape shifted dramatically when the New York Court of Appeals overturned his conviction on the grounds of procedural errors, paving the way for a retrial. However, amidst the legal turbulence, Weinstein’s personal saga took a new turn with reports stating that he has been hospitalized due to multiple medical issues.
Harvey Weinstein is Hospitalized Following His Conviction Overturn
After the nullification of his 2020 conviction by an appeals court, Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer has revealed that the former Hollywood mogul has been hospitalized in New York City for a series of tests.
Aidala has shared that Weinstein was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan upon his return to city jails on Friday. A statement released by his attorney said that he was examined by medical professionals and requires significant physical assistance due to numerous health issues. As per AP News
“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He’s got a lot of problems. He’s getting all kinds of tests. He’s somewhat of a train wreck health-wise.”
Reports also mention Weinstein’s longstanding health challenges, including cardiac problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye ailments. He also claimed that Weinstein is a “72-year-old sickly man” and was poorly treated, stating that he was even denied “a sip of water, no food, no bathroom break.”
However, Aidala noted that Weinstein’s mental faculties remain intact, describing him as “sharp as a tack” and mentally sound. A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Correction confirmed Weinstein’s current custody at Bellevue Hospital.
People Reacting to Harvey Weinstein’s Hospitalization
The public response to Harvey Weinstein’s hospitalization has been overwhelmingly unsympathetic, with many expressing disdain for the convicted s*x offender. Social media platform X (Twitter) has become a forum for people to discuss the broader implications of Weinstein’s actions and legal battles.

Amidst the reactions, some made bold statements, including suggestions to “pull the plug,” while others have questioned whether Weinstein’s hospitalization is a genuine health issue or a strategic move to garner sympathy after avoiding legal consequences.
Others also highlighted the tarnished reputation of the former Hollywood producer, viewing his health woes as a form of karma. “That’s karma, he might find a way to get [out] of the charges put against him, but he’s disgraced and now sick,” one X (Twitter) user said.
In a 4-3 ruling, the New York Court of Appeals determined that the judge in Weinstein’s trial had shown prejudice by allowing testimony from women about allegations that were not directly related to his case.
While the court has ordered a re-trial in New York, the former Hollywood mogul will remain imprisoned for a separate conviction for r*pe in Los Angeles in 2022, for which he was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison.
