John Cena has become an in-demand actor in Hollywood starring in many commercially successful films and big franchises. The actor has also become popular for making scene-stealing guest appearances or cameos in various films and shows. His great comic timing in these guest appearances always worked in favor of the projects.
He may currently be Peacemaker in the DCU, but his cameo appearances in films like Trainwreck, Blockers, and Barbie were incredibly funny and loved by fans. The actor recently appeared in a surprise cameo in the latest season of The Bear, and the cast was blown away by his professionalism along with the unexpected activity he did between takes.
The Bear‘s Cast Was in Awe of Guest Star John Cena’s Work Ethic On The Show
The Bear is no stranger to having exceptional celebrity guest appearances who played sensible roles instead of just being meaningless cameos. Season 2 had brilliant actors like John Mulaney, Olivia Colman, Bob Odenkirk, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Will Poulter. The latest season also saw many new guest stars and one proved to be the greatest surprise of them all.
In the fifth episode of season 3, John Cena makes an appearance as Sammy Fak, the brother of Ted (Matty Matheson) and Neil (Ricky Staffieri). The actor infused his natural charm and great comic timing into the episode, making it especially memorable. It seems the cast greatly enjoyed having Cena on the show and were very much impressed by his work ethic and professionalism.
In an interview with The Daily Beast’s Obsessed, Matheson revealed that Cena was an absolute pro on set and did not even read a script. He was fully prepared and inspired the whole cast. Staffieri agreed with Matheson calling Cena a very smart and wonderful person who was a great improviser. They said,
He was a pro. Showed up, didn’t even look at a script, just was fully prepared. Genuinely very inspiring, like, that’s how I want to show up on another set. He’s so smart. It shows in his improv, too. He’s very thoughtful, just a wonderful person. Wonderful to work with and just the sweetest person.
The most surprising tidbit came from Ebon Moss-Bachrach who stated that Cena had “like, a medical book he was reading in between takes”. While he may be goofing around on-screen, Cena seems like a well-rounded man who is keen on learning about various things about life and other professions.
John Cena Brought The Required Groundedness To His Nerdy Action Hero Role In Jackpot
John Cena is starring in Paul Feig’s upcoming action comedy film Jackpot alongside Awkwafina and Simu Liu. The film follows Awkwafina’s character who becomes a deadly target (the jackpot) for people in California to win a lottery. Cena’s character Noel shows up as her protector and the duo faces various adversaries together.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feig stated that Cena brought a lot of levity and a real sense of groundedness to his role instead of taking the route of a generic 80s macho action hero. The actor even suggested director Feig avoid making his character cool like a conventional hero and let him be the sweet and dedicated character from the page. The director said,
John brings such a grounded, lovely presence to what could have been a very macho, ’80s action-star thing. The role was written to be slightly nerdy, and the first time I talked to him, he said, ‘Now, don’t think you got to try to make me cool or anything.’ So he’s this very sweet, nerdy, giant guy whose only goal in life is to protect his clients.
Feig also promises that the film’s action will be character-centric which advances the plot and also reveals new qualities of the characters involved. The trailer promised a lot of fun and creative action sequences which according to Feig, was inspired by Jackie Chan and his films. Jackpot is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on August 15, 2024
