Splinter Cell‘s been responsible for some of Ubisoft’s most iconic work, but the developer seems to have forgotten its impact and how even today, fans want the stealth adventures to continue. With the recent launch of XDefiant, a first-person shooter title that features some of the characters from the series, things were looking a little more hopeful for the community.

More than a decade after the last installment, the new entry was expected to get a trailer at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward, but it seems like the fanbase will have to wait a lot longer.

In 2021, Ubisoft brought joy to every Splinter Cell fan by announcing that it’ll be remaking the first game, which was launched more than two decades ago, so a revamped version was welcome and long overdue.

Fast forward to 2024, and things have been pretty quiet regarding the development of the remake, and sadly, the developer has reportedly no plans to showcase any sort of footage for the highly requested installment.

Replying to a request that asked Ubisoft to finally reveal an extensive trailer for the upgraded Sam Fisher adventure during the Forward event, insider Shinobi602 posted a GIF that stated “OUTLOOK NOT SO GOOD,” suggesting that fans should keep their hopes low for now.

Considering how Ubisoft’s last two major releases, Skulls and Bones and XDefiant, have both been in development hell for many years before seeing the light of day, there is natural skepticism from the fanbase regarding the Splinter Cell remake. The insider tried to put these doubts to rest by confirming that there is not anything wrong with the development as of yet, but the developers require “more time” to turn it into something presentable.

Of course, Ubisoft could prove everybody wrong by treating it as a surprise reveal, but as far as the insider’s previous record goes with updates about the developer, it is not looking great for the fans of the stealth series.

Even With Hard-Hitters Like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft Forward Could Feel Underwhelming

Fisher's potential exclusion from Ubisoft's event will likely not be appreciated by the Splinter Cell community.

Even before the event is scheduled to take place, the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell fanbase is not too enthusiastic about Ubisoft’s showcase this year, as it was one of the titles that the fans were looking forward to the most.

A few days ago, it was reported that Blacklist developer Ubisoft Toronto has been recruited to work on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, which could be a potential reason why the stealth series may have been put on hold for a while.

It also does not help that the highly anticipated Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a title that may be borrowing multiple elements from Splinter Cell, will probably take center stage at the upcoming event instead.

Regardless, the excitement levels around Ubisoft Forward have naturally decreased, and the developer will probably have to reveal something extraordinary to keep its fanbase intact.

What are you looking forward to the most from Ubisoft’s showcase? Were you also hoping to see Fisher make an appearance? Let us know in the comments!
