Actress Sydney Sweeney has had an eventful year so far as she recently saw her production debut in the horror film Immaculate. While the actress starred in the lead role, she also produced the film through her Fifty Fifty Films production banner. The actress reportedly made sure that the film got made as she had first come across it years ago.
The film was released earlier this week to mixed reviews with many appreciating Sweeney’s intense performance. The film has reportedly earned $5 million in its opening weekend, making the highest opening for the distribution company Neon. The film was also made on a budget of $9 million.
Sydney Sweeney Brought The Script Back From The Dead
Actress Sidney Sweeney has been on a roll since 2023, appearing in box office successes such as Anyone But You and starring in duds like Madame Web. She has been in the news for quite some time, being branded as Hollywood’s ‘it girl’ at the moment. She also recently hosted Saturday Night Live while promoting the horror film Immaculate.
Sweeney debuted as a producer in the horror film by Michael Mohan. The actress reportedly came across the story when she auditioned for it years ago before she hit fame with the HBO teen drama Euphoria. The film did not take off due to various reasons and Sweeney went on with her acting career. However, she kept thinking of the project and then when she finally got a chance to be a producer, she hunted down the writer Andrew Lobel.
Sydney Sweeney mentioned to Entertainment Weekly how she could not take the project off her mind as it dealt with a human antagonist, unlike usual horror films. She said,
“I love horror films and I’ve been looking to do them, but scripts that I’ve been getting were a lot of just, like, getting chased by this supernatural creature… I always kept thinking about Immaculate, going back to it, because the scariest parts of this film were reality and mankind. And I loved the fact that what she was trying to escape and run from was actually growing inside her.”
The film follows the story of an American nun named Cecelia who transfers to an Italian convent where she is found to be pregnant. The film then sees Cecelia battle the other consent members as they hail her to be the next Mother Mary.
Immaculate Gave The Highest Opening Ever For Neon
Sydney Sweeney’s debut production Immaculate was released on March 22 to mixed reviews, but many were appreciative of the White Lotus star’s performance. The film is reportedly carried by her performance as she becomes the troubled nun forced to reclaim her body in a convent with terrifying secrets.
The film is reportedly projecting a $5 million box office opening in its first weekend, creating history for the distribution company Neon. The company is known for distributing films such as I, Tonya, Anatomy of a Fall, and Parasite, the latter of which was the company’s highest-grossing film ever. According to Variety, the film was released in 2,000 theaters.
Fans were appreciative of Sidney Sweeney’s conviction in getting the story to the screen as it had been shelved a long time ago. The film was reportedly made on a budget of $9 million, thus putting it on the road to profit for the production houses involved.

Sidney Sweeney has mentioned that she found Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie as inspirations for her to step into the production game. She mentioned that she would choose stories that she necessarily has to be in and continue producing good content (via THR).
