Amazon Prime’s The Boys is perhaps best known for its extremely gory scenes which leave the audience staring at the screen, shell-shocked. While the scenes were absolutely unbearable for first-time viewers, fans have eventually gotten used to them and actually look forward to seeing just how much worse it can get. One of the biggest reasons why our eyes keep bulging out of our skulls is none other than Antony Starr’s Homelander, the most unhinged character to have graced the television industry.

There are many scenes involving Homelander in which it is extremely difficult to keep our eyes glued to our screens. After all, it can get a little too much to take sometimes. While The Boys season one was absolutely crazy, there was one scene to which Amazon just wouldn’t agree to give the green light – Homelander’s “personal time” with New York City.

Eric Kripke Talks about the Crazy Scene That Was Deleted from Season One

The co-creator of The Boys, Eric Kripke, logged onto Reddit to do a quick AMA session with the fans and made quite an insightful revelation while doing so. During the discussion, a fan asked Kripke, “What scene was cut from the show that you wish could have stayed in?” The showrunner had the perfect answer to this.

Since The Boys season one had quite a few disturbing scenes, each gorier than the last, it seems crazy that Amazon would have a problem with just one out of them all.

Explaining the deleted scene, Kripke stated that it involved Antony Starr’s Homelander standing atop one of the Chrysler buildings in NYC and “jerking off mumbling, ‘I can do whatever I want.’

In the words of Kripke There was ONE SCENE that Amazon said F*CK NO, you have to cut. I couldn’t quite understand why considering everything else we have in the show, but: Homelander, after being dressed down by Stilwell in episode 2, was standing on one of the Chrysler building Eagles.

He pulled his pants down and started jerking off, mumbling ‘I can do whatever I want’ over and over again until he climaxed all over New York City. We shot it! Oh my God, Anthony was the BEST in that scene. Amazon seemed to think it wasn’t necessary. I thought it told me something about his psyche. To be clear, they’ve been great, that may have been the ONLY fight I lost in Season 1.

While the scene was absolutely crazy, it’s a little absurd to have it cut off from the first season given the fact that there are some worse scenes that made the cut. After all, we do remember what happened when the landlord visited Popclaw, right? How did that make it into the show and not Starr’s scene?

After learning about the deleted scene from a YouTube shorts video, fans had a lot to say, including:

@Random-ed2xf: That’s the least messed up thing in the show.

@alexandercruz3796: He’s Homelander he can do whatever the f*ck he wants!

@nickducharme5104: It is why we watch it lol

@ogreface8: They still ended up using the scene at the end of season 2

@daltonallen4474: They used it and it was the most tame thing that happened.

As they rightfully pointed out, the deleted scene from season one made its way to our screens in season 2.

Talking to Uproxx about the moment, Starr stated,

Well, they used that scene to replace another scene, which didn’t quite work. And it took me a minute to wrap my head around it, but now, I’ve grown to love it. It’s definitely — oh, that scene, how do I describe it? — a moment of pure weakness and need, which I think fits with one of the fundamentals of the character. He’s the strongest physical character on the show but the weakest character, psychologically.

Well, by the end of season one and seeing the extremely positive reviews the show had gotten, it looks like Amazon changed their minds about the scene and we are so glad they did. In the end, it does perfectly capture Homelander’s character and warns fans about what to expect from the supe in the next season.

The Boys is available to stream on Prime.
