The latest Major Order in Helldivers 2 gave players two urgent rescue missions: Liberate Vernen Wells to rescue survivors in a children’s hospital or liberate Marfark to extract explosives that are critical for MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines. Helldivers prioritized the civilians and successfully managed to save everyone, including the 4,311 sick children, that were trapped on the planet. Some might see it as just another Automaton threat but few believe that there is more to this.
The Automaton threat is indeed growing stronger but why did they specifically target a children’s hospital? A Reddit post has put the spotlight on this matter, concluding that the Automatons may be farming children. These robots are known for their merciless treatment of the Super Earth citizens and this theory makes sense as these soulless, killer robots wouldn’t hesitate to capture children to use them as their test subjects.
Automatons may have tried to farm children by attacking the children’s hospital at Vernen Wells
Helldivers managed to save all the citizens of a children’s hospital that were trapped in Vernen Wells. Among the trapped citizens, there were 4,311 sick children who were admitted to the children’s hospital. It was an emergency but thanks to the community’s combined efforts, all the citizens are now safe.
How does an orphanage even hold out against a whole planet worth of Automatons? It doesn’t – the automatons are farming children.

The threat is under control but it makes no sense why Automatons specifically targeted the children’s hospital. There are theories on the r/Helldivers2 subreddit that claim Automatons had plans to farm children for their own good. Automatons may have attempted to capture this children’s hospital to find Super Earth’s weakness.
Out of all other planets, Automatons chose Vernen Wells, exactly where the children’s hospital is located. This proves that this was a deliberate attack to capture children.
Whatever the case may be, Super Earth needs to be cautious now. Players made the right choice by saving the citizens first as casualties would have been far more catastrophic. It is quite evident that this Major Order was designed in a way to make sure that Helldivers can liberate only one planet.
Helldivers 2 players convinced Johan Pilestedt to make a donation
Johan Pilestedt, the Chief Creative Officer of Arrowhead, has praised the community’s decision and revealed on X that Arrowhead Game Studios has donated to the Save The Children organization. A player jokingly asked Pilestedt what he would’ve done if they chose the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines instead, and Pilestedt simply replied, “You wouldn’t want to know.” This move by Arrowhead proves why everyone loves to be a part of this community.
The new patch for Helldivers 2 was rolled out recently and it’s safe to say that many weak, boring Stratagems are finally fun to use again. The massive update featured a lot of changes to enemies, weapons, armors, Stratagems, gameplay, and bug fixes.
