The Last of Us is probably the most popular PlayStation franchise next to God of War, but the sequel has had its fair share of criticism. Naughty Dog is one of the bravest developers in the gaming industry today, but the team’s creative decisions are causing massive backlash.

The sequel was well received by critics but not by the fanbase for several reasons, but it seems like there is a shift in tone towards The Last of Us 2 now. The gaming community gave the game the recognition it deserved for the gore system.

Video games nowadays have a tendency to reflect real life and sometimes surpass it, Naughty Dog went above and beyond by designing a realistic gore system that can catch first-time players off guard. Despite what the majority of the gaming community feels about The Last of Us 2, it is a disservice to deny the technological achievements the developers have made with hardware from the previous generation.

I wish more games got the gore from guns/explosives as good as TLOU2. My favourite game graphics I think.

Gore and dismemberment aside, Naughty Dog has thought about every detail, regardless of size. With the recent release of the Remastered edition for the PlayStation 5, fans are beginning to suspect it will only be a matter of time before the PC release and modders can get their hands on the game and up the violence even more.

Some good parts of the game have been greatly overshadowed by the hate it received, and it is unfair for the hardworking developers to be put on the sidelines over something that they have no control over. Violence is part of the storytelling in The Last of Us franchise, and the team behind the controversial video game has done an exceptional job.

Naughty Dog is not shy about a little drop of blood and even embraces the concept of anger and hatred in the story writing process. Unfortunately, the team took the game in a certain direction that did not stick to the landing or resonate with fans the way they intended, but there are still things to behold in the sequel.

The Last of Us Part 2 was released four years ago, and it is still being talked about to this day for a few reasons. The never-ending debate is not getting old, but the technical aspects are worth talking about, many players even hold it at high acclaim and even compare it to other titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 which is one of the most advanced games in recent memory.

The game may not be everyone’s cup of tea and opinions can change over time, but one immovable fact is that Naughty Dog nailed the gore, and dismemberment, and has given fans a realistic depiction of violence. The theme of the video game is compatible with what the developers were able to create, and it benefitted every player’s experience.
