In a recent interview with PCGamer, Van Dien acknowledged that Helldivers 2 might be a good tribute to Starship Troopers, but for now, he’s more focused on reprising his role as Johnny Rico. Helldivers 2 has drawn a lot of comparisons to Starship Troopers, given its thematic focus on cooperative alien combat, as well as the gameplay.

However, with Van Dien’s recent comments, any hopes for a crossover or cameo have been dashed. The game’s developers have emphasized that while Helldivers pays homage to Troopers, it stands on its own as a unique experience that’s great on its own.

He said, ” Helldivers is a good tribute to Starship Troopers, but it’s not Starship Troopers. This is Starship Troopers, this is Starship Troopers: Extermination.” He added this doesn’t get any bigger than that. Although there are people who text him about Arrowhead’s game, but he thinks it’s cool but those two are still different. Van Dien continued,

But I mean, I’m Johnny Rico. And I’m in Starship Troopers. And I’m so glad to be here. Anytime anybody brings up Starship Troopers to me, it’s always a big thrill for me. I haven’t played Helldivers, but it looks cool. Then I went and I saw Starship Troopers: Extermination and this is what I’d be playing anyhow because this is my world.

It seems like despite Van Dien having positive things to say about Helldivers 2, there are no chances of the game getting a crossover with Starship Troopers. At least not for quite a while.

Van Dien Stands With Starship Troopers for Now

This clear distinction might come as a disappointment to some fans who hoped to see Rico make an appearance in the game. Van Dien’s firm stance indicates that his loyalty to the Troopers franchise is unwavering, especially given the release of the upcoming game.

He seems more excited about continuing the legacy of his character in new Troopers projects than branching out into other similar games, to not draw attention away from his own thing. Despite this, the game continues to garner attention and praise for its intense gameplay and cooperative mechanics.

While Van Dien’s involvement would have been a thrilling addition for fans, the game is still succeeding on its own merits and has been doing extremely well since its release. Of course, this doesn’t completely destroy the possibility of a future collaboration between Van Dien and the Helldivers universe.

But for now, it seems Van Dien is firmly committed to raining down fire on the bugs in Starship Troopers: Extermination, which officially releases on 11th October later this year after its current early access run.

Are you disappointed that this crossover won’t be coming out anytime soon? Let us know in the comments.
