The creator of Bleach, Tite Kubo, is considered a legend in the manga industry. His work is viewed by millions as one of the best anime and manga series in the world, and it has inspired a lot of manga creators. However, compared to other legendary mangakas, Kubo doesn’t get enough credit for the masterpiece that he has created.
There are some aspects of Bleach that are so brilliant that other manga creators have used them or even referenced them in their works. These aspects make Kubo a genius and subtly explain the long journey that the manga has explored through different narratives and storylines. It includes the creation of characters, storylines, powers, abilities, etc.
A few months ago, a subreddit by the name of r/bleach discussed the most underrated aspect of Kubo’s writing that he doesn’t get much credit for. Many Bleach fans came together and explained why they love Bleach and what makes the series and its manga creator one of the best of all time.
1. The Distinctive Personality of the Characters
According to u/LikePaleFire, the best thing about the Bleach manga is the individual representation of each character.

Kubo has given distinctive personalities to every character, which makes them unique in every scenario. Unlike other mangas, the characters in Bleach leave an impression.
The fans are easily able to understand how every secondary character reacts in different situations, which can be impactful even with a little bit of screen time. The action of every character is explained, as is the reason behind their choice. This makes the characters easy to understand.
2. Limited Use of Flashbacks
u/ataurindo states that Tite Kubo understands the importance of flashbacks, which is why he does not use them often. However, whenever he uses them, he makes sure that they are worth the time and add some importance to the narrative.
Flashbacks, or backstories, are generally used as an explanation of the character and his actions. Their main motive is to explain the reason behind what they are doing or what kind of powers and abilities they have.

Kubo, on the other hand, uses backstories or flashbacks to introduce a twist in the narrative. He often limits them to the most important moments or climaxes and then adds them to bring excitement to the story.
3. Bleach Features Gray Characters
u/Competitive-Ad-2161 points out that Kubo’s Bleach mostly features gray characters. They may belong to one side, but their actions aren’t always in the interest of the faction they are representing.

The biggest example of this is the Soul Society. According to the narrative, they are good characters, but they have also done some morally questionable things with secondary characters like Quincies, Fullbrings, etc.
This is also one of the reasons why the actions of the antagonists feel much more understandable. They do not need a backstory or a sad history to prove their actions. It is mostly a reply to the injustice that took place with them.
4. The Diversity of Battles
According to u/HollowedFlash65, Bleach features a variety of battles and is not limited to one single class of powers and abilities which makes these fights interesting for the fans. The variety of battles takes place to showcase different kinds of powers introduced in the story.

Martial arts, magic, sword battles, Bankai battles, etc. are the major types of fights that are usually seen in the story, and the combination of these fights makes them worth the wait.
The most recent example of this is Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War where some of the greatest battles between Quincies and Soul Reapers were seen.
You can watch Bleach on Hulu.
