Actress Elizabeth Hurley has working in the industry since the late 1980s. Initially gaining notoriety as High Grant’s girlfriend, Hurley soon found herself in the spotlight with movies like Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and Bedazzled (2000). She was also seen in TV shows like Gossip Girl and The Royals.
Hurley is mother to model and actor Damian Hurley, whom she had after a brief affair with American businessman Steve Bing.
Her son, 22, is now dipping his toes in the directing pool with his debut movie, Strictly Confidential, starring his mother in the lead. The movie was released earlier this month, but it was years before now, that the Hollywood virus entered Damian.
Damian Hurley Almost Had His Mother Arrested
Damian Hurley has been working as a model since 2016, when he was only 14 years old. Following in the footsteps of his mother, he started doing photo shoots and shows. But it was always movies that attracted him. Being the son of Elizabeth Hurley, and the godson of Hugh Grant, Damian has always been in the vicinity of admirable actors.
He spoke of how a camcorder his mother gave him led to him being fascinated with the world of acting and directing. So much so, that he once almost had his mother arrested in an airport. Speaking to Tatler, Damian Hurley said:
“When my mother gave me my first camcorder for my eighth birthday, a despot was born. From that moment, all I wanted was to write and direct movies. I tortured every friend and family member I could get my hands on to act in my self-written, self-directed short films, and I dragged whole suitcases of props, lights and costumes on every vacation.”
He further spoke of an incident involving his mother and godfather, saying:
“My finest moment was nearly getting my mother arrested en route to St Moritz, when I made her chase my long-suffering godfather Hugh Grant around Zurich airport with a fake dagger, bellowing that she was going to skin him alive.”
Thankfully, matters were solved before they could escalate, and no one was arrested (or stabbed).
Damian Hurley Makes Directorial Debut With Strictly Confidential
On April 5, 2024, Damian Hurley released his first directorial venture, a thriller starring his mother, Elizabeth Hurley. Damian both wrote and directed the movie, which also starred Georgia Lock, Lauren McQueen, Freddie Thorp, and Max Parker among others.
Strictly Confidential follows Georgia Lock’s Mia, who goes to the Caribbean on an invitation, on the anniversary of her best friend’s suicide. From there, it is a mystery of secrets kept by the people around her, as Mia tries to find the truth behind her best friend’s death.
