Ghost of Tsushima better be on the lookout, as a new contender is preparing to step into the ring, and this might put up a big fight.
Where Winds Meet is an upcoming open-world PC-exclusive set-in ancient China that will blow you away with its visuals and Wuxia combat style, which is described as “Soulslike“. Recently, the ENFANT TERRIBLE channel treated fans to a 1-hour, 30-minute gameplay showcase of this promising Chinese RPG.
When Winds Meet, a New Open-World RPG, Takes Cues from Ghost of Tsushima
The gameplay showcase video is quite long and gives viewers a really good understanding of what type of game Where Winds Meet is.
One of its most noticeable aspects is how you’ll be greeted by stunning environments and visuals that rival the beauty of Ghost of Tsushima.
The game has a sprawling open world with a minimalistic UI, making navigation easy with a handy minimap in the corner. Don’t expect to sprint endlessly, though, your character’s stamina bar keeps things realistic.
Exploring a bustling village, you’ll notice lively background chatter as NPCs address your character with respect, often calling him “Young Master.” According to a synopsis from the game’s official website:
Will you embrace your destiny as a young martial artist, uncover the secrets of your identity, and forge your own path in an era of boundless possibilities?
The purpose of the main character in the story hasn’t been fully revealed yet, so it’ll be interesting to see what his motivations are.
When talking with NPCs, you’ll notice that the player can choose the dialogue during some of these interactions. The narrative is shaped through player choice, so be careful what you say, and who you side with.
The game also introduces a faction system, each with its own rich history and motivations. From The Confluence to Death Toilers, every faction offers unique benefits and storylines to explore.
How Combat Works in Where Winds Meet
Combat in Where Winds Meet has a lot of versatility. In the game, we can see the character use both a sword and a bow and arrow. You can switch between them seamlessly and use different arrow types, like poison and fire.
However, the website reveals that there are also spears, long swords, fans, and other interesting weapons to unlock later. There are also skills like Acupuncture Hitting and Tai-Chi.
Two-thirds into the showcase, we’re shown a dungeon that contains intricate puzzles and hidden treasures.
There’s a boss located at the end of the dungeon, which is where the combat really shines as we see the player use a bunch of techniques. We spotted some quick-time button presses, which might be related to specific dodge timings.
While the gameplay showcase reveals much, there’s still more to uncover in Where Winds Meet. The game unfortunately has no release date yet, but a beta test is currently out.
