The new trailer that dropped earlier today at Xbox’s showcase gave us some much-welcomed in-game footage, and the game looks like the fantasy RPG of everyone’s dreams. It is set to release sometime this year.

According to the synopsis:

Explore the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger. As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague with a secret that threatens to destroy everything. Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?

The game will be released on Xbox Series X/S and Steam. Even better news for fans, it will be out on day one on Game Pass.

As excitement for the game shoots up again, its relevancy in discourse has sparked another war between fans of it and other games.

Fable seems to be the latest target; the beloved classic franchise got a modern reboot (developed by Playground Games) that brings the nostalgic world of Albion to reality in a never-before-seen way.

There were already complaints about the game’s protagonist being ‘too ugly’ for some, but with some of the in-game shots we saw today, some people don’t feel connected to the franchise anymore.

Apparently for some, the trailer for Obsidian’s upcoming release resembles Fable more than its reboot itself.

The reboot trailer gave us a grand look into the new look it’s going for, with some immersive visuals and dry humor.

The image it gave off might have strayed too far from what long-time Fable fans were expecting. The criticism of the game didn’t stop there, however.

Criticism of the main character’s look flared up again. Some of this stems from her not being feminine enough for some.

People are calling it the ‘uglification’ of characters, attempting to call out some sort of trend in the gaming industry.

Negativity aside, however, there were plenty of positive tweets as well.

The showcase was a stellar time for fans of Obsidian’s and Playground’s upcoming releases, and those who love the fantasy genre. The more games in this genre, the merrier!
