Helldivers 2 has been one of the great hits of 2024 and that game has managed to sell more than 3 million units. The game was released on the PlayStation 5 and PC, and although console exclusivity seems like a distant thing now, Sony didn’t release the game on its rival Xbox consoles.
The game has been developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, but since Sony owns its IP the decision of bringing the games to rival consoles is completely on them. Even though releasing the game on other consoles would be great for business in terms of sales, it is highly doubtful that Sony will go down that road.
The Elder Scrolls VI will not come to the PlayStation
Many Xbox users have been asking for a Helldivers 2 port for quite some time now, but none of this has materialized yet. Although missing out on the fun of playing a great game is sad, it now looks like Xbox players can take it up with Sony and give them a taste of their own medicine with an upcoming Xbox-exclusive game.
The game in discussion is Bethesda’s upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI. The game was introduced by none other than Todd Howard during the E3 event in 2018. According to the latest update, the game entered its pre-production stage in 2022, and last year it has been confirmed that the game has moved into its development phase.
The platforms for the upcoming game haven’t been officially confirmed yet, however, after the acquisition of ZeniMax Media by the tech giant Microsoft players can be rest assured that the game will come to the current generation Xbox consoles along with a release on PC. However, PlayStation players won’t be able to play the game as according to some documents as part of the FTC vs Microsoft court case, the game will not be coming to Sony’s consoles.
Some Xbox fans might be happy to hear this news as this can be their answer to Sony keeping the Helldivers 2 exclusive to the PlayStation console. Although fans need to wait for two more years for this to happen. This is because according to the same leaked documents from the FTC vs Microsoft court case, the game is supposed to be released in 2026.
Petition to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox gains momentum
Although the future of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox looks dark, a petition has been started by some Xbox fans on change.org to get their hands on it. Started by Isaiah Hardin, the petition has managed to get more than 100,000 signatures at the time of writing and its goal is to get 150,000 signatures.
Sony in the past few years has started to release its exclusive games on PC, however, this doesn’t guarantee that games like Helldivers 2 will see an Xbox console port. Currently, Xbox players who want to play the game and fight aliens will have to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 or a PC.
It still therefore remains to be seen if this petition changes the hearts of people at Sony, however, it does point to the fact that Xbox players do not want to miss out on the fun to go with their gang on interstellar wars.
