It is wholesome to see creatives praise the works of their colleagues and share how it impacted the way they develop games. The South Korean director credited the success of PlatinumGames’ Nier: Automata with the fruition of his new original story.

Directors Yoko Taro and Hyung-Tae Kim sat down and chatted about each other’s video games. Triple-A console games are not that popular in South Korea which spewed a lot of doubt with Shift Up’s ambitious project but the developers did not falter from negativity. Kim must have felt a great deal of pride after Taro shared his thoughts about Stellar Blade and believes it is a better game than his creation.

I have been inspired by NieR: Automata in so many ways that it’s hard to point out one specific thing. The game has so many fascinating elements. The image of a strong female warrior in a devastated world left by its inhabitants struck me. I was also impressed by the quality of the story. I enjoyed playing the game so much and of course I saw all the endings

Kim also heavily cited the combat of Nier: Automata as a great inspiration for the game’s combat system which resembles the difficulty and style of Soulslike games like Elden Ring. Perhaps it is why the demo did extremely well than Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in terms of daily active users.

The Japanese director gave the most validating review, and Taro mentioned that Kim’s game is far superior.

Stellar Blade is a really amazing game. I’d say that it’s much better than NieR:Automata.

Taro’s seal of approval can boost the morale and Shift Up knowing that a fellow Asian developer is enamored by a project that took inspiration from another great game. The gaming industry is truly fortunate to have humble and creative directors like Taro and Kim respectively.

Stellar Blade will feature some provocative character designs and it is exactly what the director wanted.

The project was announced quite some time ago and it is nearly here and the developers are proud of the work that was done. Players are now obsessed with the character design of Eve and the realistic physics of the game that blew up the internet and that’s what Kim wanted.

The controversial design is in favor of Shift Up and recent data of active player counts during the free demo has prompted the developers to ask the community to go easy on it and prepare for the full game coming in a few days. It is safe to assume that PlayStation has yet again another banger and is giving South Korean developers the proper support to showcase their talent and creativity.

Yoko Taro is a great director with credibility and his opinion about Shift Up’s Stellar Blade speaks volumes and is a good indication that the gaming community will embrace it for what it is. Are you excited for Stellar Blade? Let us know in the comments section below!
