My Hero Academia is currently at its peak with the story going through an epic climax right now. The Heroes are fighting the villains, specifically All For One, who have just been defeated by Bakugo. However, as the story progresses, fans have been feeling that Shigaraki Tomura, the primary antagonist of the series and the parallel of Deku has not been up to his full potential.
While the heroes are shown at their extreme, trying to fend off the evil, the same cannot be said about Shigaraki. While it is understandable that not every character can reach their full potential, certain characters like Shigaraki, the main protagonist of My Hero Academia need to grow to create an engaging story and grab viewers’ attention.
Many fans contend that Shigaraki hasn’t lived up to the hype surrounding him since his original introduction, even though he has one of the best evil backstories in the entire My Hero Academia series. It seems as if he may have been a wasted villain because of his untapped potential that could have made the story more intriguing and interesting.
Shigaraki Tomura Had One Of The Most Villainous Backstories
Shigaraki Tomura’s life was never going to be normal. Shigaraki had a very difficult upbringing, tormented by an abusive father and a mother who was never able to confront him. He was not only raised by All For One, but he also unintentionally killed his family when he was a child. Growing up, Shigaraki harbored a strong dislike for the outside world.
He can decompose anything he comes into contact with, which makes sense with the personality that he developed. He is thought to be the dark counterpart image of Izuku Midoriya because of his extremely twisted, malicious, and warped personality.
Even though Tomura is appreciative of All For One, he expresses to him directly that he wants to leave a legacy and surpass his master. However, many believed that he failed to do so, as he not only was not able to unlock his potential, but he also surrendered his body to his master, thus explaining his weak resolve.
Shigaraki Tomura Was a Wasted Potential
Numerous fans contend that Shigaraki Tomura has not lived up to the high standards set for him by the manga for My Hero Academia. By the time the story came to a close, Shigaraki had become less menacing and disruptive than he had at the start.
Shigaraki has never been able to deal with any lasting damage to Deku, even though he has one of the strongest Quirks in the anime. Following his defeat by Deku, Shigaraki frequently stayed out of the spotlight, getting pushed aside by other antagonists.
In the end, he was unable to live up to the expectations and leave a lasting impression in My Hero Academia. Supporters feel that Shigaraki fell short of their expectations and could have been a more compelling adversary than All For One.
