Why Does Shoto Todoroki Have Two Quirks?

The quirk is named “Half Cold, Half Hot,” and is obtained from his parents’ genetics. Todoroki’s father, Enji Todoroki a.k.a. Endeavor, uses a quirk name Hellfire. On the other hand, his mother Rei Todoroki’s quirk is related to frost.

As a result, Todoroki’s genes developed in such a manner that the left side of his body can use Hellfire, and the right side can use Frost, with him being immune to both. His parents were married in what is known as a ‘Quirk Marriage’. This mindset of marriage takes place so that the offspring can develop genetically advanced genes and a combination of two quirks.
Enji Todoroki trained Shoto aggressively. As a result, he started to despise his father and vowed to never use Hellfire, as it reminded him of his father. But during his battle against Deku, he realized that it was his own, and he started to use both of his powers. “Half Cold, Half Hot” can used to be the fullest only when both of the abilities are used simultaneously. Apart from that, he is also immune to cold and hot.
