Technically, 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the first game to set up the story in a future setting but Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare took players way further into the future, particularly between 2054 and 2061. As for the game’s story, not everyone was a huge fan of it mainly because of the predictable plot.

There were mixed reactions but everyone agreed that the game was better than its predecessor, Call of Duty: Ghosts, which was heavily criticized for predictive and boring single-player campaign.
