The sprawling MCU not only includes the movies, but also a plethora of TV series, a fact which may have only come to mainstream attention in recent years due to the release of projects such as Loki, WandaVision, and What If…?

However, the more enlightened fans will know that the MCU’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was arguably the first TV series from the franchise that was met by fans with appreciation. Released in 2013, the 7-season strong show featured Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson, and introduced several superpowered characters, including Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez and Daisy “Quake” Johnson.

Well, both of those characters are set to make a return to the mainstream MCU via Armor Wars.

While Phil Coulson succumbed to death at the hands of Loki in 2012’s The Avengers, he was then resurrected by Nick Fury and went on to serve as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s director. While Coulson eventually dies for real after temporarily transforming into The Ghost Rider, the series itself had a range of stellar characters that always had the potential for their introduction in the MCU.

As it turns out, two of the most obvious candidates are now set to be a part of Armor Wars, which was initially expected to enter production in late 2022 as a TV series. However, it has since been changed into a movie, and will feature Daisy Johnson and Elina Rodriguez, played by the likes of Chloe Bennet and Natalia Cordova-Buckley.

Daisy Johnson begins to be known across the galaxy as Quake, and was arguably the strongest character on the show, who had the ability to destroy an entire planet. Rodriguez’s Yo-Yo, who is shown to be in a relationship with Henry Simmons’ Mack, is able to move at super speed at the beat of her heart.

While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finished with Yo-Yo helping S.H.I.E.L.D and playing her part in neutralizing the Chronicoms, she ends up a part of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. under Alphonso Mackenzie’s leadership.

Details about Armor Wars kept strictly under wraps for the time being

It appears as though Marvel has every intention of keeping things under wraps as far as the fate of upcoming projects is concerned. Currently, the franchise is set for arguably its most major movie since Avengers: Endgame in the form of Deadpool & Wolverine.

As things stand, the fact that Benet and Cordova-Buckley will be part of Armor Wars is the only cast-related update that has been announced apart from the fact that Don Cheadle will be a part of it. Set to see Don Cheadle continue as War Machine, the movie will have a screenplay written by Yassir Lester, which is effectively all that is known about Armor Wars, as things stand. (Via Marvel)

That is of course, completely understandable, considering the upcoming July 26th release will see the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and is the first R-rated movie of the mainstream MCU. It brings to the fore a range of new and old characters and is almost certain to throw a number of surprises as well.

The MCU bosses are certainly focused on Deadpool & Wolverine, and further updates about Armor Wars can only eventually be expected.

Until then, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remains available for viewing on Disney+.
