After the release of Avatar: Way of Water, it was clear as the oceans on Pandora that people still wanted more from director James Cameron in the series, which became a contributing factor to his vision of a franchise. But almost like he could see all of this happen in the future, he had prepared for it in advance by completing the production of the third film in the franchise.

And now, the director is all said to bring the film into post-production, which seems to now be in effect till 2025.

In a recent interview with New Zealand’s TVNZ News 1, the Terminator director talked about how he came to Wellington, in 2009 for the creation of the first Avatar film, and what made him stay. Here, he also updated the audience about where the next movie of the series is in processing. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes that were witnessed this year, the third film was also a project that was rescheduled by Disney.

But as these strikes come to a close, the movie is returning to the editing room for post-production and is eyeing a late 2025 release window. He said:

“We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now, so it’ll be Christmas of 25.”

This news has got the fans hyped up, who have taken to X to express their excitement and anticipation for the upcoming film.

The initial release date that was proposed by Cameron was for the Holiday season towards the end of 2024, but due to the aforementioned events, it was pushed back a year.
