Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson is often seen doing intense action sequences and combat on screen. However, the wrestler-turned-actor decided to do something different when it came to his 2012 fantasy adventure film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Starring The Rock alongside Josh Hutcherson, the movie follows a teenager on a quest to look for his missing grandfather on an uncharted island with his stepfather.
During an interview with The Guardian, the Jumanji star recalled having the idea of bouncing berries off of his pecks after learning that they have access to James Cameron’s advanced 3D technology post-Avatar.
Dwayne Johnson Used 3D Technology to Bounce Berries Off His Pecks
James Cameron created the stunning world of Pandora in the 2009 sci-fi Avatar. The use of advanced 3D technology, specifically stereoscopic 3D, helped create a more immersive and visually stunning cinematic experience that has grossed over $2.32 billion worldwide.
Dwayne Johnson shared during an interview that his 2012 movie, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, was the first beneficiary of Cameron’s advanced 3D technology after Avatar. He decided to use it to film a playful scene utilizing his “body in a way that we’ve never seen before.”
He shared that he did not want to punch or kick the camera. “Then I thought, what if I make my pecs – and, for the record, not man b**bs, Stuart, they’re called pecs, bounce into the audience,” the Black Adam star told The Guardian. He and the producer of the film then came up with the idea to bounce berries off his pecks.
“That’s brilliant! Then we’ll do rapid-fire,” he recalled suggesting to the producer. The idea was utilized, and the scene made it into the movie. “It’s what I do,” Johnson said of the scene before adding, “I trailblaze. I make history in 3D,” referring to the use of 3D technology for the scene.
Dwayne Johnson on Working With Michael Caine
The sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Center of the Earth features Dwayne Johnson alongside Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Michael Caine, who plays Sean Anderson’s grandfather in the movie. When asked about his experience working with the Interstellar actor, the Jungle Cruise star shared that he had a great time working with him.
“We had outstanding chemistry from the beginning,” Johnson said as he shared that he’s a huge fan of the Academy Award-winning actor. “He is humble, he’s gracious, he’s a man’s man, tells a great dirty joke,” he said during his interview with The Guardian, adding that they had great chemistry both in front of and behind the camera.
