Tom Cruise, who will turn 62 this year, appears to have been committed to Paramount for some time, despite, earlier this week, inking a non-exclusive contract at Warner Bros. It will cheer the hearts of cult moviegoers to learn that the much-awaited Top Gun 3 is ready to take to the skies. Also, this threequel will feature Cruise’s reunion with his dynamic team of Miles Teller and Glen Powell, who made an action-packed appearance in the $1.496 billion 2022 film.
Top Gun 3 promises to increase the thrills as it brings together a strong ensemble cast, including The Mummy star returning to play Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. Joining him are Teller, who will take on the role of Rooster, and Glen Powell, who will play the charismatic character of Hangman. This talented trio of actors’ camaraderie and on-screen chemistry will undoubtedly rekindle our desire for high-flying adventures.
Miles Teller & Glen Powell Set to Fly High Again in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun 3
Tom Cruise’s one of the most successful franchises, is about to take off again. According to a report from Puck News, a third Top Gun film is confirmed to be in development. Expectedly, the actor will reprise his role alongside Top Gun: Maverick co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
Additionally, according to the report, the co-writer of Top Gun: Maverick, Ehren Kruger, is currently working on the script, and director Joseph Kosinski is expected to produce or direct. Meanwhile, producers David Ellison and Jerry Bruckheimer are also involved in the upcoming project. Top Gun 3 might be Cruise’s next movie after the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8, though Paramount Pictures has not formally stated as much.
This year marks the 62nd birthday of Cruise, who portrayed Maverick in the 2022 sequel to Top Gun. The franchise’s owners, Paramount Pictures, ought to have a strong interest in seeing the Top Gun narrative carried out.
Only a few days ago, it was revealed that the actor had inked a lucrative deal (via THR) with Warner Bros. Discovery. Under its terms, he will collaborate on the development of both original and franchise feature films with Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the co-chairs and CEOs of the Warner Bros. Group. Thus, there is a chance that Cruise’s Warner Bros. projects could be postponed until late 2025 or later, depending on how his schedule works out.
How Can We Expect From Tom Cruise’s Top Gun 3?
With the huge success of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, there was a lot of speculation that a third film might be in the works. As Joseph Kosinski has previously indicated, there might be more to the story of Tom Cruise’s Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (via ComicBook):
“Is there another story that is compelling enough that we need to go back? It seems to me at the end of this film that Maverick has some gas left in the tank. He’s not settling down.”
The participation of the other key Top Gun: Maverick cast members—Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Jennifer Connelly, and Lewis Pullman—in the third movie has not been confirmed.
As previously mentioned, Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison, the producers of Top Gun: Maverick, are also expected to back the third film. Cruise also produced the second film, so there is a chance he will do it again for the upcoming action film. However, there is nothing known about the plot. But just like the first two movies, the third one will definitely center on US Navy fighter pilots who are part of the Top Gun, or The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program.
Presumably, a new mission will serve as the central focus of Top Gun 3.
Top Gun & Top Gun: Maverick is available on Amazon Prime Video.
