As 2023 comes to a close and Baldur’s Gate 3 wins the Game of the Year Award, it has been a really tough year for the gaming and movie industry. With DCU releasing The Flash, fans had already lost hope for a good year.

The expectations were indeed low but three films managed to even lower the expectations as these movies turned out to be worse than The Flash. Trying to revive notable franchises, 3 movies from 2023 received worse treatment than The Flash but did they deserve so?

1) Disney’s Haunted Mansion

Jared Leto shared the screen alongside Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson in Disney’s 2023 movie titled Haunted Mansion. Being a horror/comedy movie, Haunted Mansion received laughable reviews (not a good sign) as the movie received terrible reviews!

With its release, the movie was met with an average rating of 6.1/10 on IMDB and a meager low of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. What’s more harrowing is the fact that the movie was made with a budget of $157 million. At the end of its theatrical run, the movie stood at a global box office collection of $114 million!

2) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

This one hits close to home. With Harrison Ford donning the fedora of Indiana Jones one last time, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny should have earned a lot more. Being compared to a film like The Flash, Dial of Destiny did manage to earn some profit but the fame was underwhelming to see.

Since this was Harrison Ford’s way of saying goodbye to the franchise, Disney had hoped that a lot more people would come to watch the movie in theaters. With a budget of $300 million, the film managed to earn a worldwide box office collection of $381 million with its theatrical release!

3) The Marvels

This one is a bit controversial. Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris joined hands for the 2023 movie The Marvels. Being quite an important movie in the lore of the MCU, the box office collections should have looked a lot higher.

Fans have been debating whether the DCU is better or the MCU. Well, The Flash earned a global box office collection of $266 million while The Marvels earned…a meager $197 million at the global box office. With failures and big-budget movies failing to make it big, it seems that 2023 wasn’t really the best year for movies and video games.
