James Gunn erased any evidence of Zack Snyder’s vision from the DCU when he took over as the co-head of the DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. With Snyder’s vision, there was an incredible cast of actors present but a majority of them were fired.
3 actors from the DCEU were later retained by James Gunn who seem to be the director’s favorite. With all the big names removed, the 3 actors who retained their roles are quite famous for their projects which Gunn is sure, the people would love.
1) John Cena
John Cena probably portrays one of the most iconic characters in the DCEU and the DCU. Introduced by James Gunn in 2021 with The Suicide Squad (which was a part of the DCEU), James Gunn and John Cena later worked on the series Peacemaker.
Working for a season, James Gunn and John Cena forged quite a bond which ensures that the character will surely reprise his role in the DCU. Although it isn’t specified when the actor might show up as Peacemaker, people are pretty convinced that James Gunn cannot go wrong with John Cena.
2) Xolo Maridueña
Blue Beetle became an underrated movie that was released under Gunn’s reign but was in development quite a while before the DCU. Zack Snyder was the head when Blue Beetle underwent production and Xolo Maridueña was selected for the lead role.
With alien biotechnology at his hand, it seems that Xolo Maridueña will also be allowed to reprise his role of Blue Beetle in the DCU when several other superheroes team up and form the new Justice League. The process will take quite a while so, there is a high chance that Xolo Maridueña’s stand-alone Blue Beetle movies might be released under Gunn’s rule.
3) Viola Davis
Known for creating the league of supervillains to counter a bigger and worse villain, Viola Davis portrayed the role of Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s 2016 film Suicide Squad. Davis had the time of her life portraying the role of Amanda Waller and James Gunn seemed to notice that.
As per a report by Variety, Viola Davis is all set to reprise her role as Amanda Waller in Gunn’s DCU. With her last appearance in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Davis will reprise her role in the upcoming series titled Waller. With these three actors back in the mix, several important actors seem to be quitting the DCU too!
As per the reports, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and, Gal Gadot are set to leave the DCU and will not be reprising their roles as Aquaman, The Flash, and, Wonder Woman. Alongside the departure of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, the speculations mark the end of the original Justice League and probably the start of James Gunn’s own version of the DCU.
