Before James Gunn took over as the co-CEO of DC Studios, Zack Snyder oversaw the superhero franchise under his DC Extended Universe. The filmmaker introduced the fan favorite Henry Cavill as Superman along with other DC characters, but it still struggled to match the consistent success of the MCU. Despite this, many fans embraced Snyder’s vision and anticipated more until Gunn took over and announced his reboot plans.

The shift in the DC leadership has divided fans, with some eagerly anticipating Gunn’s work in DCU and others opposing it. Director Mohamed Diab, known for his work on the Marvel series, Moon Knight, has also taken a side, as he expressed his preference for Gunn’s work instead of the Justice League director.

During the interview, he was also asked about James Gunn’s leadership at DC Studios, and Diab had only admiration for the DC head. “I know that some people don’t like James Gunn, but I see him as a great artist who will do great work,” he told Arabic Marvel (translated via The Cosmic Circus).

He further delves into Zack Snyder’s work with DC characters, saying that his version of Justice League was much better than the first one. But despite that, his work just does not resonate with him. “Snyder’s work in all the movies he made didn’t appeal to me,” he said.

Mohamed Diab Admires James Gunn’s Work in the MCU

Mohamed Diab also praised Gunn’s work with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, claiming that he would have difficulty seeing the value or potential in the source material. “As a director, if the Guardians comics had come to me, I would have zero perspective on it,” he said.

But Gunn did what he believed wouldn’t have been possible. “But three really great movies came out of it,” he said before adding, “It turned out that something that seemed incredibly trivial produced three very enjoyable and beautiful movies.”

James Gunn is known for introducing Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU with the 2014 film, which brought the superhero team to many fans’ attention. Despite being pretty popular back in the day, they were somehow known as the forgotten part of Marvel’s history.

Even the comic lord Stan Lee once stated (as per Business Insider), “I didn’t write “Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I’m not even sure who they all are!” However, James Gunn’s 2014 film starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, and Dave Bautista among the lead cast became a huge hit and established them among some of the most popular MCU superheroes.
