1. “Pirates Are Coming”

In his first appearance, Usopp tells a lie about pirates coming to Syrup Village. At first, it seems like a false alarm, but later, the Black Cat Pirates actually attack the village. This situation is similar to Aesop’s fable The Boy Who Cried Wolf, where a boy falsely cries wolf, and when a real wolf comes, nobody believes him. Like in the fable, the villagers in Syrup Village initially don’t take Usopp’s pirate warning seriously, even though it turns out to be true.

2. “I saw a legendary mole on the estate, and I’m trying to catch it!”

Usopp told Kaya about a goldfish encounter, but Captain Kuro, disguised as her butler, interrupted him. When asked why he was there, Usopp said, “I saw a legendary mole on the estate, and I’m trying to catch it!” Later, Usopp’s lie about legendary moles becomes true when he meets Miss Merry Christmas, who can turn into a mole-human creature and tunnels underground to appear in Alabasta’s ruins.

3. “Capture the dragon!”

After the battle in Syrup Village, Usopp decided to break up his mini-crew, the Usopp Pirates. The four boys talked about their dreams and remembered a time when they tried to catch a lizard, with Usopp shouting, “Capture the dragon!” This lie actually came true much later, around 600 chapters later, when Usopp, Luffy, Zoro, and Robin went to the fiery island of Punk Hazard. There, they met Dragon Number Thirteen, who had been guarding Dr. Vegapunk’s lab, even though it was abandoned.

Usopp told his mom some comforting lies before she passed away. One was that his dad, Yasopp, would return one day. The other was about a miracle medicine across the ocean. Although Yasopp didn’t return, the Straw Hat’s doctor, Tony Tony Chopper, aims to create a medicine that can cure any illness.

5. “This 30-Million-Berry Reward… Is Mostly For Me”

After Arlong’s defeat, Luffy gets his first wanted poster, and Usopp’s head is right behind his. Usopp later tells Vivi that the 30-million-Berry reward on Luffy’s poster is mostly for him, jokingly. This joke becomes somewhat true 320 chapters later when the Straw Hat crew defeats CP9 on Enies Lobby. Usopp, now known as Sogeking, receives a 30,000,000 Berry bounty.

While near Alabasta, the crew and Vivi encounter a sea creature called the Sea Cat that scares Usopp. Vivi prevents the crew from harming it, and it goes away, but Usopp pretends to be brave in front of Chopper by saying he once fought a Sea King in the Calm Belt. The Calm Belt is an uncharted area near the Grand Line known for dangerous Sea Kings, so his lie could potentially become a real adventure in the future.

7. “I’m A Brave Warrior Of The Sea!”

Usopp always talks about wanting to be a “Brave Warrior of the Sea.” Whether he’s achieved it or not is debatable.
