Zack Snyder is currently one of the most prominent directors in Hollywood, receiving both praise and criticism. While he has showcased his skills in directing a specific type of film, his work has also encountered criticism, and the reasons behind it are evident. He did not have anything to do with 2016’s Suicide Squad, but Snyder’s involvement in the DCEU certainly did no favors to the movie.
In fact, fans might not be shocked to know that 2016’s Suicide Squad took the Letterboxed top spot as the worst Oscar-winning film of all time, which is a very shameful achievement, to say the least. After all, the film ended up becoming one of the most hated films under the DC banner as it managed to do everything wrong.
Suicide Squad Took The Top Letterboxd Spot as Worst Oscar-Winning Film Ever
On the movie-focused social media site Letterboxd, numerous Oscar-winning movies have subpar ratings at best, highlighting that the Academy doesn’t always make accurate assessments over the years.
Many fans find it sad to consider that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, often regarded as one of the worst superhero films, shares the same number of Oscars as classics like Citizen Kane and Goodfellas. The third film in the DCEU adapts the story of incarcerated supervillains forming a team used by a secret government agency to save the world from the apocalypse.
Suicide Squad secured an Oscar for Best Makeup, and while that’s one of its few redeeming qualities, the film falls short in various aspects. Hindered by studio interference, it suffers from choppy editing, poor writing, and is a lackluster adaptation of one of DC Comics’ beloved teams. The film also earned $749 million to boot.
Labeling it as “Oscar-winning” for makeup is a regrettable acknowledgement for a film considered disgraceful by many. As per Collider, it has a rating of 2/5 on Letterboxd, making it the worst-rated Oscar-winning movie ever. Therefore, the failure of this film will never be forgotten no matter what.
David Ayer Stopped Campaigning For Director’s Cut Of Suicide Squad After Losing Hope
As mentioned above, David Ayer is known for directing 2016’s Suicide Squad – which remains one of the most infamous and hated movies in the history of the DCEU. According to Variety, it was reported that Ayer finally stopped campaigning for a Director’s Cut version of the movie.
In response to a fan’s tweet expressing disappointment about the Director’s Cut not being released despite Zack Snyder getting the Director’s Cut for Justice League, David Ayer acknowledged the fans’ desire to see it, stating that they deserve it.
Last rites for closure. Not asking for a release. https://t.co/fhunjs3TTf

When another fan mentioned that Ayer had previously mentioned he was done campaigning for the film, Ayer clarified that he was providing closure and not actively seeking a release for the Director’s Cut, saying, “Last rites for closure. Not asking for a release.”
