The most discussed topic amongst the fans of the superhero genre is who will finally be chosen to play the next Superman. After James Gunn and Peter Safran’s takeover of the DC Studios, fans had to, unfortunately, part ways with Henry Cavill’s version of the character. This came as a complete heartbreak as the actor had recently ignited hopes about his return through a cameo in Black Adam.

So, who will be playing the new, younger Superman in Superman: Legacy? Well, no one knows yet, not even James Gunn himself. However, he does have a checklist of what he’s looking for in the potential actor. And while Chris Pratt checks all the boxes, James Gunn has confirmed that it’s not him as they are looking for someone younger than him.

Ever since it was announced that Superman: Legacy’s Superman is going to be played by a younger actor, fans have had their own suggestions for the part. From Jacob Elordi to David Corenswet, the list just keeps growing and growing. Fans were also wondering whether Chris Pratt would play Clark Kent, given his bond with James Gunn.

However, after listing the qualities of the future Superman actor, Gunn confirmed that Pratt is not the one. Why? Well, he doesn’t fit the right age group. In an interview with Variety, when the interviewer suggested Pratt’s name for the role, Gunn laughed it off saying, “It’s not Chris Pratt. If he was a few years younger, maybe.”

As for the criteria, any potential actor needs to fulfill in order to become Superman, Gunn has the answer to that as well. They’d have to have the humanity of Superman, they have to be kind, and last, but not least, they have to be someone you can give a hug to. Do you have someone in mind?

During an interview with CBR, Pratt stated,

“As far as DC characters pan, I don’t know, I will let the fns tell me what they would want me to do. I don’t have anything official to announce. I haven’t spoken to James Gunn in any capacity to where he’s offered me anything like that. But listen, I love the guy. You know, he’s one of my best friends. I totally believe in him. And if he calls me, I am answering.”

While not as Superman, fans have been lobbying to see Pratt as a few other DC characters, including Booster Gold. The Jurassic World actor addressed the possibility during an interview with Rolling Stone, stating, “If James thought I was right for it, then you know that I would have to consider it.”

Gunn also once stated that the GOTG cast is like his family and that he will definitely work with them again, individually. He also added that the new collaboration will “probably” be at his “other job.” Honestly, who wouldn’t want to see Gunn reunite with Pratt and the others?
