The eternally divisive forbidden romance anthology of the vampire and the human brought alive by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart needs to be contested every other week to keep Twilight relevant in contemporary cinema. No matter the time or the era of progress and emotional evolution the people go through, the cultural impact of that film series remains stagnant – whether because of its awkward, uncomfortable, and often cringe-inducing story of love and romance or because of the meme-worthy performance of the lead couple.

Robert Pattinson Made Kristen Stewart’s Life Difficult on Set

His Twilight debut earned Robert Pattinson a lifetime ban on being an immediately recognized A-lister on the rise as a seriously talented and critically acclaimed actor. Fourteen years later, Pattinson is not only one of the most talented and gifted people in the industry but a fiercely skilled performer with such a diverse range that he can hold his own against a veteran mad-genius artist like Willem Dafoe in a Robert Eggers film no less.

But it all began on the sets of Twilight which for Robert Pattinson proved quite a hard role to accept and do justice to without breaking down into a pool of nervous hysterics every 2 minutes. As Kristen Stewart later recalled, her attempts at calming him down were not rewarded with gratitude but hostility and while her compliments and words of encouragement would be heard, they would not be accepted as genuine.

If one thing can be claimed with utmost conviction about Hollywood’s most adorably awkward celebrity, Robert Pattinson, it’s that he has remained the most under-appreciated artist of the last decade, unrecognized for each of his groundbreaking films, yet widely despised and criticized for the one project that helped launch his acting career. It’s no wonder that the humility and reserved character of the actor prevented him from understanding the extent of his talents in the craft back in the old days.

“Rob really sometimes…we wouldn’t be able to shoot a scene. It was like, ‘We’re not going to be able to get anything in the can if you don’t just calm down.’ He hated me too when I did that. The problem was that any time you’d say, ‘No, you’re really good.’ ‘No! You think that I need that?!’ It’s like, ‘No. I’m just actually being genuinely honest because I really like what’s going on here.’ I think it had a lot to do with the part that he was playing.”

The couple ended up being in a widely publicized relationship that the fans obsessed over for years, especially due to their ethereal on-screen chemistry that helped catapult the Twilight franchise into an almost cult-like status. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke and adapted from the Stephanie Meyer novels, the Twilight film series (with 5 films in its roster) has earned over $3.4 billion worldwide on a budget of $400 million.

Twilight is now available for streaming on Hulu.
