James Bond might not be to everyone’s taste after all. Even though it seems like Idris Elba has yet to leave the race for the role, in truth, the Luther actor turned it down even before he was brought up as a serious competitor to other contenders like Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy. For him, the suave, brooding detective is the closest fans can get to see him as a sleuth trying to save the world one disaster at a time.

But now, as time moves on, people find new faces and more candidates to be obsessed with for the role of 007. In the meanwhile, Elba moves out of the shadow of his Asgardian hero to become the villain of an equally expansive franchise at Disney.

Idris Elba Set To Enter the Star Wars Universe as a Villain?

Rumors abound everywhere regarding the status of the galaxy far, far away, and even though everything seems still at the surface, plans are brewing already for the long-awaited film under the Lucasfilm banner. With Episode IX ending the sequel trilogy in 2019, fans were thrown into the new world of streaming where the content was being constantly fed about the lives, legacies, and stories of characters old and new. Amid the new developments, there wasn’t sufficient time to rectify the errors that divided the fandom after the sequel trilogy.

Now that the rush has somewhat died down with Andor Season 1 being the latest among its numerous Disney+ additions, Lucasfilm turns its gaze toward film once again by planning to build more on the story that was left in media’s res with The Rise of Skywalker. And it is a fact established that every story needs a villain to define and give purpose to its hero. The whispers in the grapevine suggest Idris Elba is set to step out from the shadows and potentially star as the shiny new Sith villain in the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise.

The recent announcement at the Star Wars Celebration 2023 has confirmed a new Jedi Order movie with Daisy Ridley‘s Rey at the plot’s center. The story will take place 15 years after the events of Episode IX and find Rey attempting to rebuild the Order and reinstate the Jedi as the peacekeepers of the universe once again. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The Current Status of the Star Wars Franchise Looks Dubious

With JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson, the majority of the Star Wars faction was upset and divided over their manipulation of the sequel trilogy and the radical change in the timeline, leading to years’ worth of confusion and resentment. The current appointment of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau seeks to rectify the errings of their predecessors by introducing a multi-season Ahsoka series. It will not only showcase the character in live-action for the first time but act as a medium to reset the universe by uncanonizing or erasing major pieces of the sequel trilogy.

More reports on how the writers will handle the canon have indicated that certain moments of time and pieces of history in the trilogy can be changed or altered and this will mostly be done after alluding to the subject in Ahsoka Season 1 and diving into the decanonization in Season 2. Favreau had already issued a statement claiming how his goal is to “retell and redo some pieces of the sequels”. Many have taken that to consider with a degree of confidence that the director is speaking of the World Between Worlds.

If that is in fact the case, as was seen in Rebels Season 4, Ezra saving Ahsoka from sure death at the hands of Darth Vader impacts and changes the Canon’s timeline. As far as Filoni and Favreau’s plans are concerned, the filmmaker duo might be planning to do something similar by introducing the mystical plane and having Ahsoka travel through the portal changing the timeline and resetting major aspects of the sequel trilogy. There might yet be some hope left of salvaging the Skywalker Saga.
