Ryan Gosling imagined the character of Jack Salmon, whom he was supposed to portray in The Lovely Bones to appear a little scruffy and overweight with an overgrown beard. Jack Salmon is the distraught and furious father of the murdered daughter, Susie Salmon. As a result, the officials of the movie rejected the actor when he arrived on set looking 60 pounds overweight. The situation was quite a mess as he was fired just a couple of days before the shooting began, replacing him, they cast Mark Wahlberg in quick succession. The movie went on be nominated for an Academy Award.

Although, according to Ryan Gosling, this was not the primary reason why he was fired from the show. He felt that the main reason was his age and the age of his character were drastically apart, and it would create many complications and ultimately he was let go from this role. During an interview, Gosling also added that Mark Wahlberg would be better suited for this role of a broken father rather than him and it was an incredible decision from filmmaker Peter Jackson, given the timeframe of the incident. Furthermore, he went on to add that he would be the first guy in line to buy the tickets for the movie.

Ryan Gosling’s Presence in the Hollywood Industry

Ryan Gosling started out in the entertainment industry when he was very young and collaborated with the multi-billion dollar franchise, Disney.
