Jackie Chan has some intriguing memory of his first few years in the United States. Appearing on Rosie O’Donnell Show in 1996, the actor revealed that English is the most difficult language to speak as he could not even order food in restaurants back in the day. “I think it’s the most difficult language,” Chan said. “First time when I come to the United States and learning, I just, ‘ha hello uh my name is Jackie Chan’” he added with a robotic accent.

“You know, I really, I even, I don’t know how to order food. And because the, the like my babysitter he and he go away just by myself I’m very hungry. I’m very hungry then I see the restaurant then people were on the line. Okay, then I’m not going.”

Chan turned back to his room and practiced chanting “bacon toast milk sandwich bacon toast milk sandwich” the whole night. He got up early the next morning and went to the restaurant. The waitress in the restaurant gave the actor a menu and he would pretend to see the menu.

“I don’t know how to read, right? Pretend to see the manual. Later on she’s coming back, whatever, she say same thing, I said okay, ‘milk toast bacon and egg.’ Yeah, then she said, ‘how would you like to eat?’

The actor responded, “No ‘egg milk bacon sandwich’”. Further, he revealed that he learned English from watching television, American movies, and songs.

Jackie Chan Does His Stunts For the Fans

Chan does not just jump into action, he does his research. “The house we’re fighting, we can first, we at into the house. I can see how many things I can use,” Chan said of researching for action sequences. “Yeah, table flower, microphone, tv, whatever we can use. Then we just do it. Yeah, yeah, uh, chair floating around no kicking.”

It is not a secret that Chan does his own stunts. The Rush Hour actor said that one can tell that he’s actually doing the stunts. “You know, usually when some other people doing double you will see ‘bubba boom’ like this, yeah?” he said posing his left hand in a blocking position around his head. “After the stunt, I would turn around let the camera see hey that’s me.” It all makes sense when he finds happiness among the audience in the theatre by seeing the actor in fully action-packed scenes. That makes him happy. But the actor has come out of action scenes with injuries several times.

“The audience into the theater, they really concentrate on me. They would look at double, there’s a double or not because I’ve been doing this for a long long time. Maybe in United States, it’s a new, ah, new style but no in our country I’m the antique. I’ve been doing stunt fighting like 15 years now. If I’m used to double, the audience won’t forgive me.”

Certainly, the actor’s dedication to the audience and his honesty are commendable. Chan recently appeared in Scott Waugh’s thriller Hidden Strike starring alongside John Cena. Hidden Strike was initially released on 6 July while the Netflix release of the film is scheduled on 28 July 2023.
