Seeing an actor that we grew up watching films of suffering from a debilitating disease can be extremely upsetting. The Die Hard actor Bruce Willis filled our childhood with his invincible sense of acting, and we can’t possibly deal with the situation that he has been going through at this beautiful stage of his life.

Diagnosed with “Aphasia” last year – a degenerative neurological disorder, Willis hung his coat and will officially be spending time in the care of his family. But how exactly did this happen?

According to the reports that surfaced in the wake of his retirement, the 68-year-old actor had suffered an incredible amount of challenges while filming Tears of the Sun by Antoine Fuqua back in 2003.

He suffered extreme physical pressure and it is said that while filming a sequence, an “unaccounted for” projectile got hurled at him and hit him in the head. He also sued the production house – Revolution Studios citing the film’s shooting left him with “substantial physical and mental injuries.”

What Has Aphasia Done To Bruce Willis That Has Upset Fans?

Although he is not the only one who has been suffering from Aphasia. The likes of Sharon Stone and Emilia Clarke have been through this harrowing disease as well, but their condition improved over time.

But his condition progressed to the point that his cognitive abilities started to get affected. He would often forget his lines and couldn’t handle prop guns on set, according to his co-actors on the set of his film Hard Kill (2020).

Bruce Willis Struggles With Speech Disorders

Aphasia is a condition that is directly linked to language as the part of the brain that controls speech has suffered some damage.

In an old BBC interview, Bruce Willis struggled to answer even the most simplest questions as he couldn’t form proper sentences.

The show hosts asked him to explain the title of his film – A Good Day To Die Hard. 

Yeah, it’s uh.. an interesting title,” said Willis. [Audience bursts into laughter.]

I suppose, maybe you had a good day, and if you would’ve died, well, so be it,” asked the female host.

That’s right, that’s… an equation, have a sandwich and let’s go shopping,” said the Armageddon actor.

A few people in the audience could see him struggling with questions and his speech, but most of them kept laughing anyway. But his die-hard fans have got his back.

The Youtube comment on the video from a user @luisespinal_ said, “Now everything makes sense, this breaks my heart.”

Another user @santyalameda5115 went on to say, “Now we know why he behaved like this. Is really sad to know that he struggled for so long.”

Bruce Willis Has One More Disease On His Plate

As his condition progressed, according to a report from BBC, the actor is now suffering from the advanced version of Aphasia – Frontotemporal Dementia.

The disease mimics Alzheimer’s and has been found to disrupt the daily lives of people suffering from it. As he got struck on his forehead, his medical team says that “unusual proteins” can accumulate on the frontal lobes of the brain making it difficult for patients to feel, handle complicated tasks, and even disrupt speech.

Although Bruce Willis won’t be seen in films anymore, we can still watch the legendary actor in all his glory in the latest direct-to-video film Assassin which came out on March 31 this year.
