Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Pranked Hard By Danny DeVito

Two of the most unlikely combinations to star in a film together as twins, no less, are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. The 1988 film that proved to be a magnificent success for both of the acting legends then spawned another film in the 90s called Junior. The leading pair had by then become close friends and partners in crime, pranking each other just as much as enjoying one another’s company. So while filming the latter of the two films, DeVito considered pulling off a nifty prank on his co-star over the course of a lunch break.

Recalling the incident from almost 30 years ago, Schwarzenegger claimed during an appearance on the ImPaulsive podcast:

“Danny pulled a trick on me, you know. We both smoked cigars and after lunch, he gave me a stogie, a long, beautiful Monte Cristo. And after I smoked it, we went back to the set and we continued our scene, and all of a sudden, I forgot all my lines. I even forgot that I did the scene in the morning. When they said to me, ‘Arnold, this is a continuation of the scene we did in the morning,’ I said, ‘I cannot remember what we did in the morning either.’ I said, ‘I don’t remember anything.’

And so, I realized after an hour and a half later I finally got my memory back and I started remembering now the lines, and I said, ‘Okay I’m ready now to do my close-up, let’s switch the camera around.’ And I saw Ivan Reitman [the director], he and Danny DeVito were always kind of smirking and going like *imitates giggling* and I said, ‘What’s going on between those two?’

Obviously, Ivan was in on the whole thing. And I felt kind of terrible that I didn’t remember my lines, that I’m wasting everyone’s time. And then I realized Danny put some marijuana on my cigar, stuffed it in there… and I just got loaded and forgot everything.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed that the incident was only over the course of one afternoon and he ended up being so stoned that he has no recollection of that one missing hour to date. The film, Junior, ended up a commercially successful film despite paltry critical reviews.

Sometime in the future after the whole incident on the Juniors set, Arnold Schwarzenegger attempted to prank Danny DeVito using the same trick that the latter pulled on him. However, the veteran actor claimed that DeVito has a nose for marijuana. As soon as he pulled the cigar out, the comedian caught him red-handed. Despite the poor attempt, Schwarzenegger and DeVito keep pranking each other as the pair has only grown closer over the years.

Schwarzenegger also announced there was a working plan to reunite on-screen for a Twins sequel called Triplets with Tracy Morgan joining the cast this time. As of recently, there is no update on the project.
