PlayStation 5 owners can expect a brand new update coming to the console very soon. The update is expected to give players access to PlayStation Stars directly through the PlayStation 5 console. Before, the loyalty program was only accessible via the PlayStation mobile app. This PlayStation 5 update should give PlayStation fans easier access to PlayStation Stars, especially if they’re already using the console.

What is PlayStation Stars?

To those unaware, PlayStation Stars is Sony’s free loyalty program for PlayStation fans. Whether they’re on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, fans can earn rewards by completing campaigns. Campaigns are like missions where it could be as simple as playing a game or purchasing a game. The campaigns grant rewards which include digital collectibles or points. Sony stressed the digital collectibles are not NFTs as they aren’t one of a kind and can’t be sold or traded. Points can be redeemed for rewards like full indie games or PlayStation Store credit. PlayStation users can also earn points by subscribing to PlayStation Plus and purchasing eligible titles.

The program has been around since October 2022. PlayStation fans aren’t automatically enrolled into the service and require the player to hit the “join now” button on the website.  If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber who buys digital games via the PlayStation Store often, being enrolled into PlayStation Stars is a no-brainer. And if you like the digital collectibles, you’ll get a ton of them just by playing on your PlayStation 5. The points can earn you more games, whether it’s directly through the rewards section or buy redeeming PlayStation Store credit.

Why is this PlayStation 5 Update Important?

While PlayStation Stars is still far from perfect, this PlayStation 5 update should incentivise more players to sign up. Prior to the update, the PlayStation mobile app was the only way to access PlayStation Stars. One reddit user completely forgot about the loyalty program because of this limitation.
