Black Clover, written and illustrated by Yki Tabata, is a fantasy, adventure, and humor novel with a “Young Boys” appeal. The plot follows Asta and Yuno as they work their way up the Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knights hierarchy, under the scrutiny of the nobles, to become the Wizard King. However, the title is only given to one mage.
So it centers around who will be crowned as the strongest wizard in the land. It became the most-watched anime series on Crunchyroll in 2020, with viewers from over 80 countries worldwide. Shonen Jump has recently caused a commotion on the internet by uploading two new banners to its homepage, one visible as displayed and a second hidden one that removes Black Clover from the line-up.
Was Black Clover officially canceled or did it just end?
After four incredible seasons, the anime’s final episode – episode 170 – broadcasted on March 30, 2021, followed by an unanticipated announcement that the series will be getting a film instead of another season next. The anime for Black Clover was ‘canceled’ because it had almost caught up with the manga. The majority of the source material had been converted by the time episode 170 was broadcast, with the manga being only 18 chapters ahead of the anime. Anime production was paused rather than adding fillers.
The Black Clover anime was never officially “canceled,” but it was formally declared that it would finish with episode 170. Parts of chapters 270 and 272 of the manga were included in the final episode of the anime. It lasted until the Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle storyline and had only just begun the Spade Kingdom Raid arc when it was announced that it would be ending. The conclusion of episode 170 announced that it was the final episode and that Black Clover would be getting its debut anime film soon.
The fandom is divided on how to define the term “canceled,” although it is widely assumed that the series was put on hold and was not canceled because of low ratings and was driven off the air. The disadvantage of running an anime and manga series concurrently is that manga sales fall, which obviously is horrible because the manga is the original material. Because Black Clover precisely follows the manga, many people choose to watch the anime rather than read the manga.

Talking about the recently uploaded two new posters to their ‘Current Series’ page, one viewable and one concealed, which remove Black Clover from their roster, and has created quite a stir on the internet. “Nothing is yet known regarding the status of the series in the magazine, so we’ll report any upcoming information,” the tweet further read.

Fans claim that the anime was ‘canceled’ deliberately because of the obvious cliffhanger following Liebe’s flashback, the reveal of Asta’s mother Lichita, and Asta and Liebe’s Devil-Binding ritual. Other reasons for the cancellation include the rushed animation quality of some of the sequences and the deliberate avoidance of needless filler episodes, as seen in Naruto, Pierrot’s other mega-popular anime.
A movie from the Black Clover franchise was released on June 16, 2023. Shochiku premiered the movie in Japanese theaters, and on the same day, Netflix released the film internationally for streaming. There is a side narrative in the movie The Sword of the Wizard King where Asta is meant to be banished following Dominante’s decision.
In the film, the former Wizard Kings prepare to annihilate the Clover Kingdom while acting contrary to their principles. Fans welcomed the movie with great responses, as it served as water in a drought.
