Originally scheduled to release this December, Marvel Studios’ WandaVision put a damper as the release was delayed to January of next year. The CoVID-19 outbreak has been particularly harrowing for Marvel fans as there won’t be a single release from Marvel Studios this year. However, an early January premiere of WandaVision has been widely speculated to be Marvel Studios’ most ambitious project so far.

Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision, the show will adopt a soap opera model inspired by decades of sitcoms from the 1950s and the subsequent years. After the first wacky and wild trailer that was released back in September, WandaVision is set to follow the story of the star-crossed lovers after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Despite the exuberant and frolic themes inspired by popular sitcoms, WandaVision hides a deeply unsettling and sinister secret that can possibly change the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As it is pretty much confirmed that the makeshift world of Wanda and Vision is actually a reality conjured by the emotionally and mentally fragile Wanda, the show will also reveal another crucial information which might pave the path for a whole new world of superheroes (and villains).
According to Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, WandaVision will explore the real origins of Scarlet Witch’s incredible power. In his recent interview with Empire, the architect of Marvel Cinematic Universe revealed a brand new piece of information that affirms the importance of WandaVision for the future of the MCU.
“If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single person has gone through more pain and trauma than Wanda Maximoff. And no character seems to be as powerful as Wanda Maximoff. And no character has a power-set that is as ill-defined and unexplored as Wanda Maximoff. So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame. Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver made their debut as test subjects of Von Strucker. Due to conflict in rights, Marvel Studios never really addressed the siblings by their true origins: mutants. But after the staggering $71 billion deal in which Disney acquired Fox and its various intellectual properties, we might soon have our first look at the mutants under the banner of Marvel Studios.
Earlier this year, rumors of Evan Peters appearing in WandaVision had led to the wide speculation of showing mutants as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peters, who played the role of Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse had become a fan-favorite for his unforgettable slo-mo scenes as the speedster.

Interestingly, Kevin Feige has also admitted that Marvel Studios didn’t do justice to Scarlet Witch’s character in the movies. Despite being one of the most powerful heroes in the roster, the reality-altering superhero was mostly sidelined as a supporting character. But with her own show, fans can expect to see the full potential of her incredible powers and her interesting yet dangerous personality.

Feige’s additional statement of the Mind Stone not being the source of Wanda’s powers, but merely as a catalyst should also be looked out for. According to The Wakanda Files, the powers of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are termed as genetic, which the show is surely going to showcase. If the reports are indeed true, then the arrival of mutants in the MCU is just inevitable.
WandaVision is scheduled to premiere on 15th January, 2021 exclusively on Disney+.
