Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going to be a love letter to the franchise’s old roots. At least, that’s what Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed fans are anticipating. To make that happen, Ubisoft has knitted a smaller, insightful journey for players in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This ensures a smaller campaign without sacrificing the quality of gameplay, with familiar parkour and stealth mechanics from the older games in the franchise. It also begs the question – how long is the campaign?

According to Fabian Salomon, the game’s producer, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take around 20-23 hours to complete. Read on to find out more about the narrative direction, and how the campaign length makes sense when considering Ubisoft’s newfound direction with Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage – Shorter Journey, Better Direction

During an interview with French YouTuber Julien Chièze, Fabian spoke about the protagonist’s journey through the new game:

For most players, conquering the streets of Baghdad alongside the young Basim will take about 20 to 23 hours.

To recent Assassin’s Creed players, this may seem like a big downfall from the last two games. After all, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes players a good 60+ hours to get through the majority of the game’s quests and exploration. Even after that, you can expect to goof around and find newer things, making it around 100 hours of playtime. That can be a lot for many people, especially when they seek a journey that’s more focused, rather than a world bloated with endless things to do.

With the new game, players can expect to brave a smaller world, yet be focused on Basim’s journey that tells us the tale of his origins and mysteries around the Brotherhood. For that little dose of nostalgia, think of Assassin’s Creed 2. Players can expect a similar narrative direction, with a focus on stealthier missions, side quests that reveal more about the game’s lore and smaller spaces in between areas for Basim to blend into.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage – What Kind of a Story Can Players Expect?

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will tell the story of a young Basim.

For older fans of the franchise, you can expect to ‘come back home’ with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The gameplay is focused on quick-witted stealth, following in on your target’s whereabouts, and hiding in dark spaces to better strategize your execution. Classic Assassin’s Creed. Furthermore, you can parkour through Baghdad’s architecture, which is cleverly crafted by Ubisoft to support smoother animations and fast-paced getaways. It’s a smooth blend between Basim’s sense of space and being on alert about surrounding enemies.

All of these gameplay elements indirectly link to how Basim perceives the world around him and navigates it with his enigmatic presence. Additionally, learning about Basim’s connections through side quests and exploration is something that adds to the traditional flair of Assassin’s Creed. With this kind of narrative direction, we can expect new players as well as old ones to embark upon a new story.

Basim’s story revolves around a rags-to-riches trope, asking players to empathise with a character who goes from pickpocketing locals to planning epic assassinations on a grander level. Without spoiling much, you can learn a little about Basim’s background from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, getting his own well-structured campaign, to us, is a great idea.
