Sydney Sweeney is an incredibly well-known and exceptionally talented actress. She has starred in many massively successful projects like The Handmaid’s Tale, The White Lotus, Reality, and Everything Sucks, however, she entered the mainstream media through her work in the widely successful HBO series, Euphoria. Through her work in the series, she has established herself as a truly gifted and skilled actress having some of the most diverse and versatile as well as an extremely captivating screen presence.
During the recent interview, the actress revealed some deeply personal things about herself, more specifically her and her parents. She talked about guilt. that she held because of something that happened in her parents’ lives that was potentially caused due to her acting career.
Sydney Sweeney’s Parents Went Bankrupt and Got Divorced
During a recent interview with Variety, Sydney Sweeney touched on the subject of her parents, and some dark moments in their life. In 2018, the actress was finally making it big in Hollywood, having just booked a major role in the Netflix series. Everything Sucks, as well as gaining fame through her work in projects like The Handmaid’s Tale, and Sharp Objects. Though extremely well for the actress professionally, the same could not have been said about her personal life. More specifically, her parents’ personal life.
“My parents sacrificed so much to support my dream, and they lost so much during it. I just felt a responsibility to show them that it was worth it,” she says.
Not only were Sweeney’s parents facing a deeply personal issue, with them, having just been divorced, but they were also facing deep financial distress. Her parents, Lisa Sweeney and Stephen Sweeney had also recently filed for bankruptcy. The actress spoke on this, talking about how much her parents had sacrificed for her and her dream. She mentioned that because of this, she feels the weight of responsibility to show them that this sacrifice was worth it.
Sydney Sweeney Feels Guilty About This
Sydney Sweeney then went on to tell Variety that even her parents say, otherwise she feels extremely guilty and responsible for these hardships that occurred in their lives. When asked if she had any contribution to this, she revealed that she may never know. Elaborating on this, she mentioned that she felt some responsibility as their eldest daughter and child.
“I’ll never know,” she says. “I think as a kid, as the eldest, I feel a responsibility,” she continues. “They’ll say no, or they’ll say yes, depending on what fight it is. But I’ll always feel responsible.” She pauses. “But that’s OK.”
She then mentioned that when she asks her parents about this, their answer depends on what they are fighting about. Sometimes they will tell her that it was not her fault and sometimes they do blame it on her. Regardless of this, however, she does feel responsible for what happened and while some may hate this burden, the actress revealed that for her it is okay.
