It’s because Akutami had actually hinted at this big plan for Megumi during an interview on Fuji TV’s Mando Kobayashi program back in 2021.
Gege Akutami Already Teased Megumi’s Sukuna Possession
During an interview on Fuji TV’s Mando Kobayashi program in 2021, Gege Akutami talked about his plans to wrap up the series within two years. He also mentioned having endings in mind for both Yuji and Megumi, and it seems like those plans are still on track based on recent updates.
What’s interesting is that while Akutami had set endings for both Yuji and Megumi, Sukuna’s fate was unclear at that point. Sukuna’s fate was uncertain back then, and when the host brought up Sukuna’s interest in Megumi, it looked like Akutami was about to drop a big spoiler, but he got censored.
The creator went on to say (via comicbook.com) — “with Fushiguro Megumi, [Sukuna] can create a world as he wants it to be” but that got cut off by more censoring. At that time, it was not clear what he was talking about but as we look back, it makes sense. Gojo is killed by Megumi now after Sukuna overtook his body. Do you think Gojo will ever return?
