Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones starred in the 2020 BBC romantic drama series Normal People. the show became a huge hit with critics and fans, catapulting both the actors to global fame and recognition. This created a huge change in Mescal’s personal life which he found hard adjusting to. He told The Guardian,
“It has been career-changing and life-changing. This is my first time in Australia, and I’m here with work, and it’s all because of Normal People. I’m incredibly grateful for it but, yeah – it has been crazy.”
Edgar-Jones also spoke about how the success of the show worldwide has changed her life. She told The Guardian,
“It certainly has definitely been a life-changer. This year has been a strange time for everyone and life has changed fundamentally for everybody at the minute. But Normal People has done such huge things for Paul and I, and it’s crazy to think that so many people have seen it. That’s still something I can’t actually believe. It’s a very odd thing to get your head around.”
The show is a rare phenomenon that has captivated audiences across the globe with its emotionally resonant characters, a gripping romance, and a bittersweet ending. Paul Mescal Is Stressed About Starring in Gladiator 2
Paul Mescal was recently cast in the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator as the grown-up version of Lucius from the first film. He expressed the nervousness of stepping into such a project that has a huge responsibility to live up to the legacy of the first film. He told Esquire,
“I can’t get into that! I can’t tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular, because it’s definitely the biggest one I’ve done. I feel really excited, but, like, it’s difficult to get away from the legacy of the film a bit. I think it’s really well written and it pays homage to the first one, but it’s very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own.”
Gladiator 2 will also star Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Jacobi. Ridley Scott will return to direct the film. Mescal has a new release coming up on October 6, 2023, called Foe, a sci-fi psychological thriller alongside Saoirse Ronan. He will also star in the fantasy romance film All of Us Strangers alongside Andrew Scott, which is releasing in theatres on December 22, 2023.
