“It certainly has definitely been a life-changer. This year has been a strange time for everyone and life has changed fundamentally for everybody at the minute. But Normal People has done such huge things for Paul and I, and it’s crazy to think that so many people have seen it. That’s still something I can’t actually believe. It’s a very odd thing to get your head around.”

Paul Mescal Is Stressed About Starring in Gladiator 2

Paul Mescal was recently cast in the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator as the grown-up version of Lucius from the first film. He expressed the nervousness of stepping into such a project that has a huge responsibility to live up to the legacy of the first film. He told Esquire,

“I can’t get into that! I can’t tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular, because it’s definitely the biggest one I’ve done. I feel really excited, but, like, it’s difficult to get away from the legacy of the film a bit. I think it’s really well written and it pays homage to the first one, but it’s very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own.”

Gladiator 2 will also star Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Jacobi. Ridley Scott will return to direct the film. Mescal has a new release coming up on October 6, 2023, called Foe, a sci-fi psychological thriller alongside Saoirse Ronan. He will also star in the fantasy romance film All of Us Strangers alongside Andrew Scott, which is releasing in theatres on December 22, 2023.
