The world changed when Cory Barlog picked up the Blades of Chaos of Kratos and released the 2018 video game, God of War. With Kratos being a changed man and a father, the story delves into the intricate relationship between him and his son and the eventual finale of Baldur and Atreus’ lineage.
In the sequel, God of War Ragnarök, the story continues as Kratos and Atreus navigate through the Fimbulwinter after calling upon the prophecy of Ragnarök by killing Baldur. Well, it seems that Santa Monica Studios is not done with the franchise as a DLC or a sequel to the 2022 game could very well be on the horizon!
Santa Monica Studios Isn’t Done With The God of War Franchise
It’s time for gamers to shine the Leviathan Axe once again as Santa Monica Studios is reportedly busy planning something big for the God of War franchise. With the recently released God of War Ragnarök getting rave reviews from gamers around the world, something grand is probably coming.
In hopes of keeping up with the hype for the god-killing franchise, Santa Monica Studios has been allegedly working on either a DLC or a stand-alone game in the franchise. After Fimbulwinter takes hold of all the nine realms, it’s up to Kratos and his son Atreus to survive Ragnarök.
The event takes place in the 2022 video game and as per notable leaker ViewerAnon, Santa Monica Studios is definitely working on something.
IGN’s bang-on here – this is how you cut the gap between releases while also maybe letting greener teams work on the half-sequel with established tools and support. Santa Monica Studio’s working on new GOD OF WAR stuff and I wonder whether it will be RAGNAROK DLC or a half-sequel https://t.co/MxXUyNUvKT

With the concept of a half-sequel still new to the market, Santa Monica Studios could easily take advantage of that fact. However, fans have faith in the company, it seems that Santa Monica Studios doesn’t want to rob people but actually give good video games to play.

Is Santa Monica Studio Working On A Half-Sequel or a DLC?
So it has been reported (and most probably confirmed) that Santa Monica Studios is working on the God of War franchise. But to look at what they are making, we have to learn a little history and a little economics lesson.
A half-sequel is essentially a stand-alone game that is very short in nature but enhances the story of the original game. With suspense and twists that leave the player hanging, half-sequels are a great way to keep the hype alive while earning some money as they prepare to release the actual game. On the other hand, Santa Monica Studios does not have a habit of launching DLCs or Downloadable Content/s.
So it could likely be a half-sequel but with the recent release of God of War Ragnarök, another project in the franchise could take as early as 2024 to announce. For the time being, God of War is available to play on all platforms while God of War Ragnarök remains a PlayStation exclusive (till now).
