Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 is currently ongoing. After a long wait, the fans can enjoy their favorite anime once again. They did get a taste of cursed energy in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, but it was not enough for the fans. They wanted more. The fandom got their wish fulfilled with season 2 beginning with Satoru Gojo’s back story.
The Shibuya Incident arc commenced after his backstory. This arc has a lot of crucial moments in the anime which are interesting to watch. It might take more than a couple of seasons to wrap up the whole thing. Manga readers know most of it. But what Jujutsu Kaisen fans might not know is that their favorite protagonist was not the first choice. Instead, another powerful cursed user was supposed to take his place.
Itadori Yuji Was Not Gege Akutami’s First Choice For Jujutsu Kaisen
Itadori Yuji is the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. Not only do his peers at Jujutsu High love him, but anime watchers also love him. His cheerful personality and his nature of putting himself in danger to protect his friends have earned him a special place in everyone’s heart. Even though he is such a great character, Gege Akutami initially thought Yuta Okkotsu to be the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Gege Akutami got permission to work on continuing the serialization of Jujutsu Kaisen after Volume 0. Akutami was in distress surrounding the main character of their manga. The first choice was to keep Yuta Okkotsu as the main character from Volume 0. But Volume 0 had already explored Yuta’s character and backstory. So making him the protagonist would kind of double down on them.
With this thought in mind, Gege Akutami shifted Yuta Okkotsu to a side character and created a new character, Itadori Yuji, to be the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. While a faction of fans thought it was unnecessary, the majority of them loved him and accepted him as the face of the anime as soon as the anime aired.
Similarities Between Itadori Yuji and Yuta Okkotsu
Even though Gege Akutami changed Yuta Okkotsu for Itadori Yuji, they kept several similarities between them. Just like Yuta Okkotsu, Itadori Yuji is plagued with a curse that is much stronger than his. They both were given death sentences, but Gojo Satoru looked after both of them. Both the sorcerers are survivors of personal tragedies.
After all these similarities, there is a big difference between them. Both of them have different personalities. While Yuta Okkotsu is an introvert, Itadori Yuji is an extrovert. It has actually helped Yuji become popular among critics and reviewers. Gege Akutami worked hard to create Itadori Yuji. After seeing his popularity, they will surely be happy.
