Gege Akutami shared how they thought of such an intricate personality and background for the characters in their series, Jujutsu Kaisen. They said they would start by observing which shōnen archetype the character commonly falls into. Akutami believed that fans of the shōnen genre are fond of the personalities that catch the attention of the readers and Shōnen Magazines.

Gege Akutami also addressed how they would adapt the physical aspect of some characters like Panda or Inumaki to outline their personality. However, things were quite different when it came to Satoru Gojo since the Mangaka shared how Gojo was nothing but a concept at the start. They shared that the special-grade sorcerer was the epitome of power.

Akutami discussed how getting a hold of the trope for a character would jump-start their development.

Gege Akutami introduced one of the strongest characters in the series early on. This resulted in some problems for the author by trapping them in a sticky situation. Akutami can’t introduce new characters into the series who are stronger than Satoru Gojo and also can’t risk getting the character defeated because it’ll blight his entire personality.

Akutami had to resort to ways of writing around his immense power. Gojo is insanely strong, and this was established quite early in the series. The character was so overpowered that his birth impacted the balance of the Jujutsu world. However, the Mangaka ended up making the plot difficult for them to write.

The author had to find ways to introduce new villains in the series who were strong but not in a way that would ruin Gojo’s entire character build-up. There are two primary antagonists in the series, Sukuna and Kenjaku.

Akutami wrote about Gojo’s immense power during the Shibuya Arc. Kenjaku was rather determined to get rid of Gojo without killing him. Instead of defeating Gojo, he decided to seal him in an inescapable realm.
