One of the biggest anticipated moments in the popular anime and manga series One Piece is the reunion of Monkey D. Luffy and Shanks. Luffy is on his journey to become the king of Pirates and Shanks is one of the emperors of the sea, therefore their reunion is bound to happen someday in the anime and manga series and fans can’t wait for it. The moment holds great importance as Shanks is one of the reasons why Luffy wanted to become a Pirate in the first place. However, fans may get to see the reunion sooner as the live-action series that was recently released by Netflix might make it possible.

Shanks and Luffy’s Relationship in One Piece

Luffy first encountered Shanks when he was seven years old in his birthplace of Foosha Village. They get along really well and have the same fascination and admiration for one another. They both promised to meet again after Luffy had built a crew and become a great pirate equal to or greater than Shanks. Shanks is the Red Hair Pirates’ leader, an Emperor, and a former pupil of the Roger Pirates. Luffy considers Shanks to be a personal hero, considering him to be the ultimate pirate and a wonderful guy, and has remained committed to the pledge he made to him back in his home village.

Netflix’s One Piece Might Drift From The Original Source to Give Luffy and Shanks a Reunion

After hearing Luffy’s booming declaration that he would become a pirate on his own, organize his crew, and overcome them all to become the Pirate King, Shanks was tremendously impressed. He is also one of the many pirates who discover Luffy’s wanted poster in One Piece season 1, episode 8, Worst in the East. The captain of the Red Hair Pirates is impressed that Luffy kept his word. Notably, Shanks comes across Luffy’s poster while he is at the Grand Line. This is significant in the plot because the Straw Hat Pirates are on their way to the grand queue.

Given the show’s emphasis on their relationship, when the two ultimately cross paths again, it’s going to be a satisfying moment. However, seeing the anticipation and depth of the moment, the series might have to change a lot of things from the source material to make it happen which looks like a long shot for the creators and Eiichiro Oda himself.
