Released in 2016, Batman v Superman is a unique take on Batman and Superman. It’s a dark and realistic superhero film and the best DC film since The Dark Knight.
In the film, Lex Luthor, aka Alexander Joseph Luthor Jr., is the primary villain. He’s the ambitious CEO of Lexcorp and the mastermind behind the creation of Doomsday.
But the writer of Batman v Superman wanted to transform a DC character into Metallo. He intended to have this character as a villain in Zack Snyder’s version.
Early Batman v Superman Script Featured Metallo, Not Doomsday
In the earlier drafts of the script for Batman v Superman, Metallo was planned to be the primary antagonist for the movie’s final act.
Wallace Keefe, a character who lost his legs during the Black Zero event in Man of Steel, was set to don a Metallo suit and became a main threat to the heroes. However, this concept was eventually reworked, and the storyline changed.
Instead of becoming Metallo, Wallace Keefe’s character took a different path. The script was adjusted to have Lex Luthor provide him with a wheelchair that was rigged with explosives.
This gave a more psychological and manipulative aspect of the character. That’s not it even according to Zack Snyder, The Joker and The Riddler were in the movie as well.
Zack Snyder Considered Adding The Joker and The Riddler in Batman v Superman
During a Batman v Superman interview, Zack Snyder said that he considered including The Joker and The Riddler in the movie. In addition to that, he wanted to introduce even more comic book characters.
In an interview with Collider, he revealed that both “the Joker and the Riddler both came close to being in this movie.” He continued:
“We talked about the possibility of putting them in.“[Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie, and that’s cool, but I didn’t want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.”
