Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Wolverine back in 2021, and there have been discussions and speculations if the game is set in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The speculations have been going on because the teaser hinted at Earth-1048, but there was no official confirmation before now.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer has confirmed that Wolverine and Spider-Man are in the same universe.

Bryan Intihar, the senior creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 recently sat down for an interview with Kinda Funny Games and was asked by host, Greg Miller, if it was previously confirmed or even denied, that the upcoming Wolverine game shared the same Earth as Insomniac’s Spider-Men. Intihar then revealed that all three superheroes are in the same universe. He stated:

“They’re all 1048. I think I got that right, but yeah.”

For those who don’t know, Bryan Inthiar is referring to Earth-1048 which is the place where Insomniac’s Marvel universe superhero games reside. This was confirmed with the appearance of Insomniac’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film and means that Wolverine’s storyline can connect with Spider-Man.

Additionally, Marvel’s comic book series is set in 616 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on 199999. Inthiar also added that there were plans to have some Wolverine easter eggs in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but decided not to introduce them as the studio wanted their main focus on Spider-Man. He said:

I’m just trying to learn how to make Spider-Man or try to get Spider-Man off the ground. While there’s another Marvel thing I’m trying to get.

I think for us it’s a ‘let just let’s let that team cook, you know, let them cook.’ and let them make the game they want to make.

Who knows what the future holds, but for now let’s let them do their thing, and that game’s going to be great.

Although this is exciting news for fans, it cannot be confirmed or denied if players will find any Spider-Man Easter eggs or references in Marvel’s Wolverine game, which does not have a release window as of now.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has several references including Avengers Tower, Sanctum Sanctorum, the Wakandan Embassy, and more, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that we could see Spider-Man in Wolverine after all.

Bryan Inthiar’s comments realign with what the creative director has said in the past to IGN. Intihiar added:

But right, now let’s just make sure that let’s not box anybody into a corner, and let’s just make sure that they have a clear runway to make the best Wolverine possible and it’s going to be awesome.

So I’m really excited about it. But we wouldn’t be like Marvel fans if we didn’t talk about things.

Although Inthiar said that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does not introduce any Wolverine easter eggs, there is one minor reference at level 52, when players unlock the “Best There is Suit,” which adds Wolverine’s mask and colors to Miles Morales’ suit.

Not much has been revealed about Marvel’s Wolverine so far, since the announcement in 2021 which featured a small teaser trailer. The game will have “cutting-edge gameplay” and an “emotional narrative” for players to resonate with. It will also be a mature-rated title and will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
